09' & 10' rear end issues
Well i hope it dont take forever getting this IMPORTANT info to all of us, because i would like to see what you`re going to do about all the rear differentials that are NOT set-up (from your vendor manufacturer) properly, and whine terribly. I had my pinion nut checked, its tight, BUT, my rear differential whines so loud from 50mph on up that the radio wont even drowned it out. If YOU personally work for chrysler DodgeCares, i would advize you find out who is qualified at your dealers to even work on these differentials before you people issue this recall. I have yet to meet a qualified differential technician in ANY of your dealer networks. At the most, these monkies today are going to make matters worse if they aren`t properly trained how to set-up a differential. I suspect most of them cant read, because the first thing they do is, is throw the instructions right in their garbage can. Issueing a recall is the right thing to do, but then to have "untrained techs" trying to repair the problem is a very bad thing on YOUR part. Tell your company to check your training records and UPDATE your tech`s training abilities..! Rebuilding a differential the correct way is an art, 1 out of 1,000 might get it right, the first time. A couple of your dealers here, when i asked them how they would fix the whine in my differential, said to me, and i quote.... "oh thats an easy fix on your truck, we`ll order a new crush sleeve, slap it in, tighten the pinion nut and its done". WRONG ANSWER...!!!! This is what YOUR dealers are telling customers...!!!! I dare you to call some of your dealerships and ask the techs that very question... i would be very curious as what they would tell you over the phone if they didnt know you worked for chrysler corp.
Sorry for the rant DodgeCares,
i`m just tired of the BS that your dealers tell the customer and how they handle a problem.

LU229,
I pass along as much feedback as I can regarding this issue and many other issues to the correct people within the corporation.
I will let the other Chrysler techs on here respond to what training is required and to your calling them, "monkeys who can't read", as I cannot respond to such insults and blanket statements.
On more than one occasion you seem to question if I really do work for Dodge in your posts, I can assure you and everyone else on this forum that I do indeed work for Mopar, which handles service and parts for the Chrysler Corporation, which includes the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, and Fiat brands in North America.
While I completely sympathize with Lu and all the other victims of bad differential parts/assembly (esp. the folks who locked up at speed and could have died), I'm glad to see that Dodge has made progress and is drafting a recall.
Thanks for the udpate, DodgeCares.

YW. Like I said, as soon as more info is available I will post it here.
First point: DodgeCares...thank you very much for the update on the recall. Like many, I've been concerned about the potential for the rear diff to lock up, and was looking for some indication of what was causing the problem. So the information on the pinion nut is very helpful. I had already taken the precaution of having my pinion nut checked, and Loctited, but I will certainly be looking forward to the specifics of the recall.
From what I've read, preliminary investigations can take many months so this this is a quick response and appreciated.
Second point: LU229...I don't get it. Somebody from Dodge steps up and gives advance notice BEFORE an official recall and your immediate reaction is to bash the company, their dealers, and their technicians. Is it really helpful to refer to technicians as untrained monkeys who can't read? I've had ZERO problems with my dealer and I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest your constant negativity and attitude towards dealers contributes to the ongoing issues you have.
Yes, you're entitled to your opinion...and I'm entitled to mine. Sometimes, if you haven't got anything good to say....

Hi,
New member here and new owner of a 2009 TRX 4x4 4.7 with 32k miles on it. Living in europe, and not so many dealers for Rams I probably have take some actions myself. Have started by ordering new outer tie-rods (left one have some spill). Now you got me worrying about this pinion nut, and therefore some searching, seems they recall 2009/2010 Ram/Dakota in Canada. Not sure I'm allowed linking, so check autoguide.c o m

The fix is described as adding a pinion nut retainer. Do not have a picture but if I get one I will post it here.
Interesting. I'm picturing a cap that goes over the nut like what retains a boat prop and that cap probabally gets staked with a punch.
Hopefully I can get a picture and will post it if I do.

Once the recall actually comes out, I can check on the scope and if international is included.
