Default What's Next For The ***?

I currently have a Gen 3....2008 RAM 1500 with the Hemi that I pull a 3000lb work trailer with.

It has 120,000 kms on it now and I'm thinking of trading it in on another affordable 1500 of a newer year.....perhaps a 2010?

I've had the diff rebuilt once and additional bearings replaced yet again.

Other than that it has been a good truck.

What should I worry about / look for on a 2010 or 2011?

So I've been looking at used 2010 Ram 1500 quad cabs with the 5.7 and ....WOW....they are still commanding $22K to $28K depending on mileage and upgrades.

Too rich for me at the moment.

I'll keep looking for "the deal".

4th gens are running above $20K easy. And the more it has (4wd, CC, Laredo, etc.) the higher the price.

Funny, because I bought my 2008 in fall of 2012 with 70,000 kms for $15k.

I just assumed I'd find another 4 year old truck at a similar price.

The 4th gens are pulling in much more. My father was just offered $38K on his 2012 Laramie CC. Granted, he was shopping for a brand new '14 with a sticker well over $50K. Around me I do see some '13 SLT Quads selling for $24K but nothing much below that.

Wow.

I just went looking for a 2008....and guess what? The cheapest I found was at $14K....with 140,000 kms.

I guess I bought a good deal when I did.

Maybe I'll keep it for now.......

If your 08 is not nickle & dimeing you to death, the only thing you`ll gain with a newer one is payments.

I avoid payments on something that depreciates.

Trade and cash.

And because the "financial" guy was such a dick the last time.......$8000 in $50 bills.

He almost sh*t.

Nobody uses cash anymore.....and I had to order it from my bank 24 hrs. ahead of time!

A lot of extra work just to re-dick.

Early 4th gens had a recall for the rear pinion nut, lots of owners had issues with exhaust studs breaking causing exhaust leaks (ticking) especially on cold start-ups,
HVAC actuators caused problems with vent/defrost selection on the heat a/c system
Best bet is to browse the forums and look for recurring topics, good luck with the hunt for a truck
