Design Change?
This seems kind of trivial but, on my 13 1500 my fog/driving lights aremounted vertical while on the 14 they are mounted horizontal. Was 2012 the same as 13 or 14? Not sure it makesa difference but I have noticed the change.
Thanks for looking at the post. J
2013 was a minor facelift for the 1500s. It was mainly to accommodate the larger grille, which hid the new aero shutters in the grille. When they redid the face in 2013, they changed the fog lights from a horizontal look, to the new vertical look. I'm not sure if there was an actual performance change going to vertical or not.
The 2014s are vertical as well, they did not change back.
After thinking about it awhile longer, I'm sure the vertical fog lights of the 2013/2014/2015+ 1500s has something to do with aero performance. It seemed like every other change for the facelift had that in mind; things like the grille shutters, longer side steps, air ride height adjustment, etc.
Thanks for setting me straight. I could have sworn that the verticals were only for 2013 but after seeing the 2014, I can see the kept the same as 2013. Grill shutters??? never heard of that before.
They're shutters, kind of like blinds on a window. When the truck gets to highway speed and doesn't need as much air to keep the engine cool, it'll close the shutters behind the grille. The closed grille shutters reduce the amount of air allowed to bounce through the engine bay, and pushes it around the truck instead.
