Default 1500 5.7L to 2500 6.4L

I have a 14' 5.7 Express Quad cab with 20in. wheels and have been pulling a 6350 dry weight TT. By the time I add gear, water in the tanks, wood etc; I could easily be at 7500lbs (just guessing). It pulls ok but hills are rough as you might expect. I have seen some good deals on 2016 2500 Tradesmans with the 6.4L. How much better do you think the 2500 gasser would pull my trailer? I'd love a Cummins but not quite there financially.

I'm there with you when it comes to towing. I have a '11 1500 ST Quad-Cab with the 4.7 and although it can pull my bosses dump trailer it bogs down on hills really bad. I've been looking into a 2500 and/or 3500; when I looked into the differences between the 6.4 (gas) and the 6.7 (diesel) it came down to the mpg difference. I'm looking for a diesel.

duroc, a new 1500 with the higher hp and 8 speed trans with 3.92 would pull 7500 lbs without issue i have pulled 5500 lbs "aprox" with a 5.7 rcsb 4x4 3:55 gearing up and down the blueridge mountains. o power issues. i have read that some guys are having the same issue with the 6.4 and 3.73 gearing as you are having now.
