Default Why such poor tow raitings?

The new Dodge Ram is seriously out ranked when it comes to towing. Is it because of the new coil sprung rear? Or, do they want people to upgrade to a 2500 series?

Ram - 9,100lb

F-150 - 11,300lb
Silverado - 10,500lb
Tundra - 10,100lb
Titan - 9,400lb

My question to you is: do you really tow something that heavy on a regular basis?
I know if I had to tow something that heavy I'd either rent a 3/4 ton or find a friend with one. How long will those 1/2 ton trucks that tow that much all the time last? That's a lot of wear and tear on any 1/2 ton frame, regardless of make.

When I get my new Ram, I know I'll never tow anything close to that with it.

True, if you are going to haul a big load, I would rather do it in a 3/4 ton or a 1 ton, but what I am asking is WHY are the tow ratings so dismal? Don't get me wrong, I love the new Ram.

its for safety, they don't want to be responsible if something happens. Also these trucks CAN pull 11,000 if you really wanted them to... but is it safe for the driver or anyone else around them? probably not.

bottom line: it IS recommended that if are going to pull 10,000 pounds, it should be with a 5th wheel hitch.

Yes, its cause the coil rear suspension. I was talkin to one of the mechanics at the dealership and he said these trucks are going to suck. If you are looking for an actual truck, you do not want the '09. If you want a cush riding prissy car that looks like a truck, the '09 is just what your looking for.... almost a direct quote.

That's one person's opinion that they are entitled too.

Well, the truck may ride better than some other trucks, but I still think that it is sad towing performance had to suffer because of it. Obviously a truck can tow more than its rated for. But that also means that a truck like the F-150 can tow more than 11,300lb.

I also realized that the payload is 1850lb. The F-150 is 2730lb.

If its just the coils that are limiting the tow rating than thats good because the aftermarket or Mopar allready has or will soon have a coil upgrade kit for people that want to tow alot more than 9100lbs.
