I just got mine on Saturday and haven't changed the oil yet but I don't think I'll do it early because it's my understanding that many cars come with break-in oil in the crankcase that shouldn't be taken out earlier than recommended. That may not be the case with these trucks, however.

I don't think car manufacturers use beak in oil anymore. I plan to do mine at 1000 to 1500 miles. Then 3000 or 6 months whichever comes first from then on. I tend to keep my trucks at least 10 years. Depending how you use the vehicle and how long you plan to keep it, you could just follow the maintenance schedule in your warranty book.

the owners manual says the first oil change is at 6000 miles! i am almost at 3000 and i am debating whether or not to get it done at 3k.

Lifetime warranty... I'll change it when the owners manual says I have to.

I'm going to change mine at around 2000 miles. The main thing is to ensure the engine has been broken in and the rings properly seated (i.e. occasional full throttle acceleration at highway speeds). Doing the first oil change early isn't a necessity though. Once I change mine and put synthetic in, I'm going to go until the computer tells me to change it. With the high quality oils on the market today, especially the synthetics, it's a complete waste of money to change it every 3000 miles unless maybe you fall under the "severe duty" use category.

The first oil change is one of the most important. The first 2-3K miles will produce more metal in your oil than any other time of the engines life. I recommend changing the oil at 2500 miles and 5000 miles. After those two, change it every 5000 miles or as the manual says if you wish.

Manual states: "Synthetic Engine Oils You may use synthetic engine oils if the recommended oil quality requirements are met and the recommended maintenance intervals for oil and filter changes are followed." I don't think using synthetic oil alters the recommended interval of every 6 months or 6K.

Maintenance interval for Oil+filter is every 6months or 6,000 miles. I don't put a lot of miles on a vehicle per month (500miles or less). I do a lot of short trips. I consider what I do to be moderate to sometimes severe duty. So for the price of 2 or 3 oil changes per year (average). I'll change the oil every 6 months or 3.000 miles.

I just rolled 5k miles and did my first change. I put in mobil 1 synthetic. The oil that came was not as black as I thought it would be. I am going to try and stick w/ mobil 1 this time.

i will go at 6K as the manual states. why waste your money?

do you think the dodge engineers would recommend 6k if it was not a good idea?
