So basically the XDI is simply mandrel bent parts that you can get from Summit and a cone filter like any K&N? It just has a housing around the filter. You could make that yourself in about an hour or so. Why wouldn't you do the same but pull cold air through the front section of that filter housing? All you need is some 3-4" hose coming from in front of the radiator or under the and you would have cold air into the XDI.

No the true flow and the XDI use foam filters which many offroad racers use and supposedly filter much better than cotton guaze like k&n. True flow has videos explaining the concept of their filters and the xdi on youtube if you want more info on them. I know they aren't true CAI's, but that really wouldn't bother me if I got a lil performance and 2 mpg from it.

Ive never had a cai before...few questions...Are there any problems that arise later down the line such as senser problems..warranty problems..warning lights..Are there any other things I need to hook up with the filter .Ive noticed different types of filters, foam gauze,paper,synthetic,etc..Ive also noticed oil or oil free types and enclosed or sealed systems. It looks like so far for the 2009 the choices are Volant, oil free, enclosed air box,100,000 mile maintenance free..Airaid,synthetic,oil...True flow XDI,foam sealed system and RBP..Okay Ram brothers HIT ME....

Kinda off topic but do any of you know if a superchips or predator tuner voids the waranty on these trucks? When you set the tune back to stock can dealerships really tell it has been flashed before?

They probably can tell. I only know of one tuner manufacterer that outright claims that theirs is undetectable (and I've never seen anyone refute their claim), but they only do diesels. In fact, I think they may only do dodge diesels. BUT, even they don't claim their programmer for the '09 diesel trucks is undetectable.

There are a lot of ways they can go about figuring out if a programmer has been on one, IF they're interested enough to go digging. The key cycle counter is one fairly basic way, but there're plenty of others.

well after reading this and seeing pics of the XDI makes me want the set up but kinda want k&n as well. think its worth the wait for k&n? maybe just drop a K&N filter into the stock box?
