Just b/c they exist doesn't mean Ford has made money on that decision. Nowadays manufacturers are cutting all sorts of things, including entire vehicles from ever coming to production.

I think ford just created a more versatile full size frame to which you can bolt various cab/bed configurations while keeping the cost down and still offering the choice to their customers.

I'm not here to start another boring ford vs dodge thread. I'm a Dodge guy, but I must admit that buying the new ram means accepting a lot of compromises. I dont understand why dodge reduced the interior room in the quad cab, keeping the same bed length, while increasing overall exterior dimensions ?

I know that dodge needs to make money with the new ram therefore targetting specific market niches. Those niches unfortunatly exclude long time truck buyers like me who actually use their 4x4 off road with 4 guys inside with the bed full of gear towing a trailer with 2 atvs, propane tanks & quartered moose

You can get the new 2500 Ram in a crew cab with either the 6'6" or the 8' bed. It can also be equipped with towing mirrors and a built-in brake controller.

Dodge made a decision to keep those customers who need a work truck pointed in the direction of the 2500 and others towards the 1500. The ride won't be the same though.
