Default Kumho Road Venture AT KL78

So I'm looking at getting new tires b/c I can spin the GY's all day trying to pull the boat up the ramp when the tires are wet. I'm looking for something with a little more surface area and better wet traction. I figure 305/55/20 is a good size. In that size, based on what's available at Discounttire.com and tirerack.com, the Kumho's are the cheapest option with some serious tread. Does anyone on here have any experience with these? Preferably in the rain? Any other suggestions for a good tire for wet pavement? From what I've read they're pretty quiet and seem to hold up rather well, but there isn't much out there on this forum about them.

the size you selected will be 1.2" wider.. so you will get more tire to the ground with the new size (bigger contact patch 10.8" stock vs 12" your new size)..

also i dont know how close the tire is to the suspension but the new size will be .6" closer.. i dont know if thats enough to make it rub or not.

It rained here in LA and yeah.. the goodyears spun like crazy... prolly the worst tire i ever owned.

I dont have any experience with Kuhmos... but i believe they have a nice reputation. I say read the reviews on tirerack and se what others say about the wet traction..

if you can stay with the stock tire size (275/60/20) then they have the Revos... which i did have before and are badass!! .... id say go with them.. they have the best wet traction rating!!

Yup, that's why I decided to go with that size - have an extra 1.2" (~ 11% more) but I was hoping that the .6" wouldn't make them rub. They also shouldn't change the speedo according to discounttire.

And yes - the HP's are the WORST tire I've ever driven in the rain.

They have 8.5's for both wet categories/ratings and a 8.9 on dry traction. Seems pretty good.

I think if you're just going to be driving on the road and you're not looking for an aggressive tread pattern then you should get some Pirelli Scorpion ATRs. Very well rated and well priced.

both 8.5s in wet traction?

revos got a 9.1 in traction and a 9.0 in hydroplaning.. heck they even got a 8.9 in light snow!

but your right about the added contact patch... so i dont know.. but i do think the .6" it sticks out past your fenders, that mud and dirt will be all over the side of your truck. thats why when i ordered my 24s over the weekend i got the tire size 285/40/24 instead of the typical 305/35/24.... i didnt want the dirt slinging issue

On another note.. i just sold my f150 supercrew... and i was a member of a few F150 forums and yes.. they guys who had the scorpions on their truck never had anything good to say about thier tres... so i would stay away from those.

1. I had the revo duelers on a '98 Ranger and I wasn't that impressed in sand or mud, but they did do well in the rain (95 down the 101 in the rain with no traction problems).

2. I'm really looking for a 305. It makes a big difference when trying to pull a boat up a ramp with wet tires.

3. I don't really care about the dirt on the truck - that's one of the reasons I got a truck again. When I had the vette i was washing my car weekly and waxing/polishing it almost monthly. I got tired of it. My last two trucks weren't washed more than once a year and that's what I plan for this truck.

4. I guess you can't always trust the reviews then if the Pirellis suck like you say they do.

i prefer nitto terra grapplers, always performed well for me in the past.. Also all of you who are spinning like crazy is this because you are flooring it or turning off traction control. The TC is pretty good from what i've seen and i've been driving in alot of rain here lately. I pulled a boat up the dock the other day in the rain and had no problems. I was in 4L thought...
