I am going to use Mobil One as well. I will change it the first time the computer tells me to and then once the synthetic is in there I will go 6000 miles.

You should probably do it now since you are using synthetic. From what I heard people saying about using Mobil 1 is that you really shouldn't have the old oil in the truck for to long. Change it as soon as possible with Mobil 1. I should have changed it just after the engine break in period. Not sure if that is true but cant hurt to change it right away. 7 Quarts put me right in the middle of the "SAFE" part of the dip stick.

I don't consider 2500 miles too long. Is the any research on this?

I'm sure you can find some information on google about doing a first oil change to Mobil 1. I was just passing along the info that someone told me. I questioned them also about the mileage and changing it at that time. And last weekend was 60 degrees here in NY so I figured it was oil changing weather haha.

Mine went off this morning at exactly 2000 miles. 3 years of free maintenance from the dealership, time to put my bitches to work! haha

Default Oil Change

2011 Ram Hemi, first oil change light came on about 2500-3000 miles, brought it in had it done. With synthetic oil was told that oil was good for 5000 miles between changes, after talking to service manager, he suggested every 3000 no mater what. The advice they give at this dealership is always spot on. The racing family Bettenhausen own the dealership, so I,m sure they know what they speak of. got my last 5 cars there. when I found out my wife's caravan had ac problems that were across the board, even though my warrenty expired, they extended it out, so I wouldn't be stuck with a 1000 dollar ac bill. absolutely the best dealer around.

They restrict how much you can take advantage of the oil changes I'm gonna guess.
Oil chang indicator light uses complex algorithms based on the length of cummute, rate of speed, how often you cycle the ignition, average time the engine is at operating temperature sorta stuff. My oil change light illuminated at 2800 miles AFTER I already did 2 oil changes...

I did my first oil change at 1kmi, another at 2500kmi, another at 5kmi and again at 10kmi. The first 10kmi of engine life is the most crucial. The most metal deposits from the initial wear/break-in happens within this timeframe. Running your first oil change to 5kmi off the bat is a bad idea and I just dont understand why manufacturer doesn't state otherwise.
I went to Synthetic after the first oil change @1kmi. Brand new cars come off the line with Synthetic from the start so it's not like your hurting anything. That "myth" is just that. Synthetic provides better overall protection than conventional no matter how you slice-n-dice it!
My wifes 2012 Subaru comes with Synthetic oil from the factory and only reccomends Synthetic oil every 7500miles. Her first oil change will be at 2500miles and every 5-6kmi thereafter as she does alot of highway travel.

at 63k miles now and mine comes on 2500-3000 miles regardless since I bought it new. I do not drive hard or tow. Been doing a lot of highway driving lately. I ran conventional until about 25k miles until I ran out of free oil change coupons from dealer, then switched to M1, now run Valvoline Synthetic and change around every 5000-6000 miles. Point is I think the oil change light indicator is a load of crap, maybe I missed a reflash to fix whatever formula some software programmer wrote for it but every 2500-3000 miles for the type of driving I do is wrong. At least its easy to clear.

I follow the indicator and it comes up every 5000 km or so. It comes on a little sooner in the winter as I put weight in the bed and idle more to warmup. I use synthetic so don't worry to much when it comes on. I just change it when I have the time or bring the oil and filter to a local mechanic I trust and have him do the labour.

If i owned a dealership or lube place I would recommend changing your oil every 1000 miles, it only costs about $60 at the grease monkey. Myself personaly every 4-6k.
