X2. I looked at this feature on the new Ram's and you are correct. They are NOT suggesting you go 10,000 miles between oil changes. They are simply saying do not exceed 10,000 miles between oil changes IF the oil change indicator does not show it's time for an oil change. Personally i would not run over 5k with conventional and 8k with synthetic no matter what the oil change indicator says.

104K on the same truck and my interval is about the same 4-5K with whatever the dealer puts into it.

You're correct and the way I wrote was grammatically unclear. But it does implicitly mean that the oil change interval is effectively 10,000 miles maximum depending on operation.

I have the Oil Change Gauge on the EVIC constantly displayed (I've selected it as a gauge feature) and at 3514 miles it has just reached the approximate one-third mark with about two-thirds left to go. Unless my driving style were to change somewhat drastically, it appears to be relatively on track to be very, very near the 10,000 mile mark.

EDIT: After going through the screens on the EVIC this morning, I discovered another Oil Change gauge that shows the remaining distance to oil change. It indicated that at 3532 miles I have 67% of oil life left.

Bests,

Which poses a question. What happens when you get to 10,000 miles yet the oil monitor thinks you still have miles left? Does it trigger a message at 10,000 miles regardless, or will it go to the point that the computer says it's time to change even if it's over 10K?

Just curious. I see you list a "cabin filter mod" in your vehicle description. What is that and how does it work?

Thanks in advance,
Dusty

The cabin filter mod is where you take a stock Dodge cabin air filter and install it in your Ram. It requires cutting a hole in your airbox, inserting the stock filter, then placing the stock cover in the hole. Mopar sells it as a kit: http://moparonlineparts.com/1500-cab...er-p-4339.html
So does Geno's garage: http://www.genosgarage.com/DODGE-RAM.../#.U8KTJvldW_g
Geno's has a nice little video of the install as well.

You sure are wasting a lot of money. If you don't mind keep all that 2000 mile Mobil 1 for me and I will put it in mine at time for oil change. I'm going to 7500 for my first change on my 14, and wont lose a minutes sleep over doing it

lol...no kidding. I'd run that oil another 8k easy, after he drains it! There is one guy on one of these forums that runs 15K oil changes with Pennzoil Platinum.

I worked for Exxon as well as Valvoline and have seen engines torn down and each part inspected to determine wear rates. Also keep in mind the manufacturer's suggested mileage change interval is about 15% less than what was actually determined to be adequate. Oil manufacturer's data shows the oil can far exceed oil change intervals by as much as 5K, much of the specifications require this type of longevity just to get the service label.

5yr old thread resurrected once again from the dead..lol This thread keeps coming back.

2009---2012--2013---and again in 2014. Sweet.
