"Discontinued" Hemi MDS VCT
That is very interesting. I was told by multiple sources that the changeover was done simultaneously. Do you know when your truck was built? Thanks for the info.
The Hemi MDS WT seems to be the new designation. That means it no longer has Variable Cam Timing? What then is the "WT"? These things generally always stand for something. "Without Variable Cam Timing"?
I think I mis-read "VVT" as "WT". I apologize. New glasses ain't gonna correct this I'm afraid -- a new brain is going to be necessary.
Variable Valve Timing -- is it achieved by another method than varying the cam timing? And is it not as desirable a system? Is it better or worse for power, or for MPG?
You guys are great. Thank you all for your help.

Preface: I am an old man too ( for internet forums anyway ) at 43. I know very little about the new modular 5.7 Hemi. I understand the principles of air flow, lift and duration.
I would think it woul be more "desirable" to manipulate air flow and valve timing with the cam than with the lifters (if I am understanding vvt correctly).

I'm pretty sure that all this is gonna turn out to be much ado about nothing. As far as I know, there has been no change in how the '09 hemis vary cam timing. My understanding is that VVT is the ability to vary intake valve timing and exhaust valve timing independently of each other. This would generally require a setup using more than one camshaft, unless you do some very fancy footwork involving one camshaft inside of another. This has not happened on our engines. They are still one camshaft in the block, the timing of which is varied by an "oil vane system", for lack of a better term. Thus, any change made to the camshaft results in that change being applied to both the intake and exhaust side. This, by definition, is VCT.
Why something is being listed as discontinued, I have no idea. I bet we'd have heard already if another cam timing scheme was being released in these engines.

My 09 Quad w/Hemi was built 12/08, has the locking tailgate, but DOES NOT, have the MDS light.
Quite frankly, Im very disappointed. I like techy things like that, and everyone is saying that the December built trucks should have it. I went into the setup function of hte EVIC and there is no selection to turn it on.
Why dont I have this? Oh, and the sticker says VCT.
Now why does one person with a 12/08 VCT truck have the light, while another one doesnt?
