It is replacing the windshield fluid sensor and wire harness because it shorts out in the fluid due to an O-ring failure. This will not fix your delayed, but accurate OAT reading. This really sucks. How do you screw up something so simple that you have had working fine for 15 years on every pick up, car, and minivan. If you turn your truck off and it is 40 degrees and you go back out several hours later and it is 70 degrees outside, it will take about 10 minutes to reset and it will count up one degree at a time until it reaches 70. It is absolutely insane, but they say normal. I say POS.
I agree...how hard is this when this technology has been out a long time. I realized from the start it was not showing the right temp. Will let them know on my next visit for service.

Mine really doesn't seem to have that problem. It seems to update in a few minutes.

After posting yesterday that mine does the same thing. When I got in my truck last night after work it updated itself right away. Now this is just a theory. I think it take longer when it is cold outside or if it was cold when you turned the truck off. Just some food for thought

I drove to WV this morning and realized it did update. So I guess it is working.

The whole "update" thing is absurd. It should immediately show the correct OAT just like every other car in the world does that has an OAT gauge.

Mine seems to be consistantly almost 6-8 degrees off. Anyone else? Hope it's an easy fix for that.

After 10 min from posting went in garage and checked temp says 53 on dash, that's what the thermo in garage says. Real close anyway.
Last night coming home the guage read 38-40 the whole time. Looked at the roadside station and it said 46 when dash said 39. Hmm.
Got home parked in garage guage said 39. Went out to my Dak which has been sitting out. It read 42. ???????

You guys got it good... Mine reads anywhere from 40-60 degrees high! I was snowmobiling and it said 101 degrees. Now that is what I call global warming!

Wayniac,
The repair with the O ring in the windshield washer bottle will fix your problem. It will only take 10 -15 minutes for it to give you the correct temp, but it will get it right eventually. I wonder why they don't put the compass on a delay to avoid sporatic directional changes? It is idiotic.

PER CHRYSLER:
For all vehicles with an outside temperature display: Before performing any repairs, note that the system displays the last known temperature when starting the vehicle and may take some time/mileage to update to an accurate current reading. Customers with very short commutes may not get an updated reading before the vehicle is turned off. This strategy was intended to eliminate wildly fluctuating readings and may cause some customer confusion leading to unnecessary diagnostics/parts replacements.
