The biggest bang for your buck with appearance is going to be tires and wheels. The wheels in particular can make or break the truck when it comes to appearance. Bigger wheels will look more street car like, so I would avoid 22s, or even 20s for that matter. I think the taller sidewall of 17s are more truck like.

A set of black wheels would look amazingly good on that non-chromed TRX truck. How about a set with more hard core "off road" style? These look nice.


Larger, more aggressive tires also make a huge difference in appearance. And getting the truck up in the air a bit helps as well.

No the TRX4 comes with 17's. I think to run stock with higher profile tires for off road purposes.

Yes, I have 20s. He has 17s on his truck now though, and the wheel that I posted a picture of is not available in a 20 (but it is in a 17). Great big wheels give the vehicle a low rider street look. He wants a more rugged off road look, and I think a 17" wheel with the taller sidewall is going to do that better. His truck is the off road model TRX version, and it makes no sense to put 20s on it, let alone 22s. Put 22s on it and its going to look like the owner has an identity crisis, and hasn't figured out what he wants.

There are other things that will toughen the trucks looks up, but even if he does a roof rack with a high lift jack, shovel, etc, and does a bed rack, winch bumper, etc., etc., etc., if he keeps the lame stock wheels and puny stock tires his truck just isn't going to look very tough. Its just going to look like a street truck that someone threw some parts at.

Tires and wheels are the first step.

Hey I was at pep boys today and I have a tire/wheel question. They had some silver rims I liked that were only 15's. They also had reasonably priced "mudder" tires to fit it.

Two questions......

The guy at the store said the rims were made mostly for older trucks etc. What the h*ll does that mean?

Would a tiny 15 with 31" or 33" tires look dumb or "off road tough"

Mopar I'm with you... I think changing all that stuff and keeping the stock tires/wheels would look kinda dumb....

 

Newer trucks/vehicles often have larger brake rotors necessitating a larger wheel to clear the caliper. 15's may be too small.
