Default Noob suspension question

Ok so I've always heard body lifts are the cheap "gay" way to go; and that suspension lifts are the "correct" way to go. Can someone please explain the positives and negatives for each because to be honest I'm not quite sure of the difference.

That's basically correct. Body lifts are not great, but I'll let someone else get into the specifics of it.

Do what you want to do. The only people that will know the difference is those that actually know what a suspension is. 85% of the other people will never know the difference. Besides, its your truck isn't it? Do what makes you happy.

yep body lifts and queers go hand in hand ....

Body lifts are different now than the cheap ones you see on early 90s pickups. Alot of chevy guys are running 3" body lifts and you cant tell at all. You just have to make sure you buy one that comes with all of the relocation brackets for your bumpers and tow hooks along with a steering arm extention. As far as the gap you usually see between the bed and the frame, the inner fender liners will cover that; if your truck didnt come with them you can buy them at the dealership.

Body lifts are great for fitting bigger tires. They also leave an ugly gap. They do nothing to the suspension and your truck will act stock except for the larger tires.

Suspension lifts are great because most of them are designed for the off road crowd. You can fit bigger tires and gain suspension performance. The suspension lift will make a difference off road.

Do you want looks or off road capability?

I run both on my dakota. A suspension lift is the way to go but, expensive on IFS trucks. You can cover up the gaps in the wheel wells with lift lips. IMHO Dodges don't look bad with a body lift. Check out a chevy, you can see the whole frame once you lift them. The only down side to a body lift is having to relocate the bumpers, shifter and fan shroud on the radiator.

I had a 98 Dakota. Your truck is what I wanted to do to mine before I switched over to the Rams.

Nice rig.
