Production Back Up Camera system
Hi All,
On my new 2009 RAM Laramie, the only option I'm missing is the backup camera. (Got an great dealing buying it in stock!)
Been looking around and found the following off the mopar-accessories.com website "Production Back Up Camera system that integrates into the Back up camera ready radios (REN & RER)"
The part is for a Jeep commander. (Part # 82211293) so my question is will it work on a RAM 1500?
Also, how hard would it be to run the cable.
Thanks, Richard

I spoke to my dealer about getting one installed, as it was not available when i ordered my truck. He told me they are on nationwide backorder at the moment and that he didn't know when they would become available.
For such a nice integrated feature, it sure seems as though they've dropped the ball in making them available.

There have been other threads on this. All of the part numbers are listed out. I have the full installation instructions, assuming you can even find the kit, and it requires splicing wires. It is NOT plug & play, but will work with the factory setup.
The camera also needs to be made active at a Dodge dealer. It's not plug and play. I have one. I was, according to my dealer, the first to add one in North America. It took them four days to get it to work. The mechanic was on the phone with Chrysler engineers troubleshooting it for much of that time.

If you can find it buy it. I order my camera kit mid March. I called the dealer today and was told it will be another month before it comes in. I had no trouble getting the IPOD cable and the power lock kit for the tailgate.
I was following the discussion on the production back up camera. I have the exact same situation with a 2010 Dodge 1500 Laramie Ram Box. My dealer can order me the camera for $430 and installation will cost me another $400. That's nuts! I cannot believe that Dodge wouldn't have pre-wired this option so that if the customer decides to order the camera, it's a simple wire job, plug & play. I am also a little miffed to hear that the system requires activation (charge) - but what the heck. If the wiring was already set up than I wouldn't mind paying the fee. Based on what I have seen, that's not the case and the time required to hard-wire the camera into the system is real.
I assume that means there is NOT a video input jack on the factory NAV/Stereo (REN & RER) systems? If so, that opens the option for a third-party camera (Alpine makes a great camera product that can fit around the license plate). If not, then does anyone have any other suggestions/options?
Thx.

So let me get this straight... you expect Dodge to wire every truck, for cameras in the tailgate? What would be the point of having it as an optiuon then. Youve already connected it to the radio and ran all the wiring, you might as well slap the little camera on there...
Its called an OPTION for a reason, if you didnt get it, expect to either 1. pay for it or 2. figure something else out/wire it yourself
If every truck came pre-wired for everything we'd all be driving dumbed down laramies with wires everywhere...
