Plant closure and effective build date
What do you think they can just speed up the line as fast as they want anytime? It goes down the line the same speed, the only thing might happen is things that may have been a repair issue on the line may not get fixed in paint especially so give your paint job a good once over. That and metal is the only place that they can really let stuff go. But I have worked where there was part shortage but they shipped to dealer anyway because the dealers had the parts or they would hold them until and just get installed at the dealer. I worked at 2 different plants in all departments. I am not at all happy with my paint job.
That makes for good politics
It is all good, he was just venting. My dealer still says it is coming. Of course when I press them to guarantee it they waver. I will wait and see where it all sits Monday.
I would rather have my truck, but would take the others I found.
That is what I did. I will learn my fate this afternoon, but I have found three trucks that would "work", 2 on the east coast and one in MI. By the way, mine was suppose to ship on Monday as well
One would need gears and a radio.
Another would need a radio (Has two things I do not want, but would take)
The last does not have a rear slider
All are VVT Hemi's, so I guess I get the MDS light.
The dealer can install gears or a radio.
They are most likely stopping due to the lack of suppliers giving them product. Would you, as a supplier, give a bankrupt company product? Although Chrysler could do a COD thing, but they are not in a position to be able to do that right now.
Curious why your dealer called it so early though. My dealer has a conference call this afternoon to learn the fate of in production trucks. Mine is being built in St. Louis and as far as I know it is still running (until Monday). If it gets to shipping it will deliver. The shipping company is not Chrysler. They will continue to move any stock that is available.
If the plants have supplies they will crank out as much as possible as fast as possible, knowing they will be down for a while. What they really need to do is take man power from the back of the lines, which should not start new vehicles and move them up the line to move it faster. This will get a few more units out and leave the line clean and allow them to see some $$ on those vehicles, rather than let them collect dust for a couple months. But who am I to tell them how to run a plant or a business.

PS I have my truck, and I love it. Even though it is an early model pre dec08 so no locking tailgate till my locking pace edwards setup gets here.

I am retired from Chrysler! I worked in 2 plants they can't make them any faster than the linespeed. They don't have enough employee's floating around to take up the slack So don't worry you aren't gonna get a vehicle "built in a hurry" . Just to take a second a van off an employee would require..time study all kinds of BS. That is why I responded the way I did. Maybe that is why the Minivan Plant here is the highest quality...we don't hurry up, not even while we build Volkswagens LOL> They do sometimes if they want to empty the plant out for some reason quick, they leave things for the dealer to take care of. Not too often, if you lived around here you would see in farmers fields etc, Mini vans or some other dodge or chrysler parked out there, they can't be released because a defect was found and the part won't be ready and it's easy to fix. That would be the only way they would "hurry" but it's still goes down the line the same speed and the part gets on before you ever see it. "Hurry" to me means they don't stop the line for part shortage or something like that. Like they don't require it to drive it or to pass "rolls".

I'm starting to look around tomorrow for what's available on the lots and if I find something close to what I've ordered and the price is right I'll take it. If not, well more waiting...
What happens if the dealer closes before your truck arrives?? I read somewhere the plan to shut down 1500 dealers. As much as I want to wait (my truck was due to ship May 5th) I think I need to pick one up now. What about the incentives?? Doesn't the bankruptcy release them of that obligation? Too far off and too many unanswered questions. 60 days to start again and most likely another 30 to get it to the dealer. That puts me in August, dealer inventories will be low, demand may increase, less dealers, I can hear it now, the price is the price you don't want it I will sell it to someone else... I highly doubt we will see incentives like they have had going forward.

So no answer on the VSS and VCT question?

next thing I'm about to do is to go to the dealer who's got the same truck like I ordered and offer to them the same as I have on the bill of sale. If they take it, their truck is mine, if they don't, well too bad for them. I think at this point i"m at the driver's seat.
Nothing more to say. I may come back with truck, but I may not.
I still don't know what VSS and VCT means for the HEMI?
