Plant closure and effective build date
After reading this thread, I really feel lucky my truck came in when it did. My wife and I are re-financing our home to get a lower interest rate and also to get a little cash to fix some of the things that need fixing. I really did not want the truck to show up before we closed due to the complications that might cause with closing, but now I feel I may have lucked out with the truck showing up when it did. If our bank won't close on the house there are other mortgage companies we can deal with. I called my dealer yesterday and thanked him for making sure the truck got ordered and shipped before this mess hit. He told me they had just got out of a meeting and they were told that anything that wasn't on a train car by Wed would not ship. He said he had 2 vipers and 1 truck that were not going to make it and no one could tell him when they would ship. All 3 vehicles were built but not loaded on the transport. Is he BS'ing, could be but not sure why he would since I have my truck and it doesn't affect me one way or the other. I feel for him also as those 3 vehicles represented sales for him that he won't get to close now. God speed to Chrysler and I hope this time they can really make a change that will last. It really kind of sucks that they've come so far in improving their quality only to have to shut down and be sold off. I know a bunch of people that have been waiting a long time for the 2010 heavy duties with new body style. I hope they get the chance to buy the one they want. Jeff.
I think you have some excellent thoughts right here. I tell you this, I'm out getting my deposit first thing in the morning. I don't want to be one of the people in line once the dealer shuts down. I know this will create a panic, but I'm not about to lose my money.
next thing I'm about to do is to go to the dealer who's got the same truck like I ordered and offer to them the same as I have on the bill of sale. If they take it, their truck is mine, if they don't, well too bad for them. I think at this point i"m at the driver's seat.
Nothing more to say. I may come back with truck, but I may not.

They'll still be around. It is hard to say in what capacity. The board will be comprised of a hodge-podge of Fiat people, uaw people, and will include appointees from the obomination administration. Full size four cylinder pick-ups might become a reality. Who knows.
They could do that, but the mileage from the 6 cylinder to the Hemi is not that different so I can't see them being a purchase for fun like most of us, and well the HEMI is not working as hard so I would assume it should last longer. I don't drive a pickup cuz I need one, cuz I like one and like the height and the safety and well insurance is cheaper. Would be nice if they figured out a way to get different pistons to work with the MDS instead of the same 4 or go 6 sometimes like the old Caddies.
I keep seeing more and more news coming up that plant that is/was making dodge ram is going to be closed permanently. Sadly I think this 2009 4th Generation Ram might be the last generation and last year they were made. I hope to be wrong. That make me think more and more of the need to buy what ever I can find now. We might now see any of our trucks rolling out from that factory, ever...
So question for you guys, would you buy Dodge RAM if it was the last RAM produced???
Or would you move on to some other truck that is still gonna be around?

The Ram will be around unless Dodge completly goes bye bye. They are only scheduled to close one plant. They are also made in MI and Mexico. With that said they may stop making RC trucks. St. Louis was the only location which made the RC (based on my sources). One of the other two locations would need to be re-tooled to do this. Will they re-tool, who knows.
They also have a 20 city and 22 highway Ram for 2010 (Hybrid).
I said it before, only time will tell. The communication between Chrysler, its employees and dealers is VERY bad right now. Hard to get straight answers. My gut feeling for this is because Chrysler does not know where they will end up for sure. Until the Fiat deal is done and all parties involved get in a room (Chrysler, Fiat, the government and UAW since they will all own a piece) the future is unclear and all speculation.
EDIT... I will add if you want a new DODGE Viper you better go find one sitting at a dealer now!
Oh yea... I think I heard this will be a 9 person committee. It has been my experience the more hands you have the in the mix the harder it is to get anything done, just look at congress
