Plant closure and effective build date
Hey Folks,
I can't seem to understand with the Chrysler going into Bankruptcy protection are they closing the plants as of now?
My truck was schedule to leave the factory on the 4th, I called the dealer today and he said that Chrysler won't complete the build until 30-60 days.
Do you guys know if they are closing the factories OR will they finish existing orders???
Thanks

How I interpreted it was the same as the dealer told you. I believe that they are shutting down all plants and operations for 30-60 days until they come out of bankruptcy. Once they re-emerge they will resume business as normal. Sorry about your luck. MHO I would cancel your order and look around other lots to see if you can find what you are looking for.

One would need gears and a radio.
Another would need a radio (Has two things I do not want, but would take)
The last does not have a rear slider
All are VVT Hemi's, so I guess I get the MDS light.
The dealer can install gears or a radio.
They are most likely stopping due to the lack of suppliers giving them product. Would you, as a supplier, give a bankrupt company product? Although Chrysler could do a COD thing, but they are not in a position to be able to do that right now.
Curious why your dealer called it so early though. My dealer has a conference call this afternoon to learn the fate of in production trucks. Mine is being built in St. Louis and as far as I know it is still running (until Monday). If it gets to shipping it will deliver. The shipping company is not Chrysler. They will continue to move any stock that is available.
If the plants have supplies they will crank out as much as possible as fast as possible, knowing they will be down for a while. What they really need to do is take man power from the back of the lines, which should not start new vehicles and move them up the line to move it faster. This will get a few more units out and leave the line clean and allow them to see some $$ on those vehicles, rather than let them collect dust for a couple months. But who am I to tell them how to run a plant or a business.
I have read some of the filings for the bankruptcy. They are going to stop production for about 60 days or until they emerge. If you don't have your truck, better go find one or plan on waiting awhile. I am so saddened by the list of long long time Chysler plants that are closing on not moving on to the "new" Chysler. It is a who's who list of plants.
Just a FYI, my phone just rang, my salesman. My truck moved from framing to paint (Update from last night). So, as of yesterday, it is still moving down the line. Suppose to get the conference call update later.
I just got the call from my dealer (salesman) who told me THE SAME thing, the status moved to F, which is I guess paint. It did that this morning around 11 am. He believes that it might still roll out of the factory before they close it done.
How do you know that they are going to stay open until Monday. Monday May 4th was the day when my truck was scheduled to roll out of the factory.
I'm facing two options, one is to cancel this deal and be without a truck until all settles down, the other one is to wait. I don't like waiting.
The other thing that comes to mind is this. Do I really want to buy a vehicle that is build in a hurry?
If they only have two days left, well what kind of a truck are they gonna build???
Any thoughts?

Chrysler spokesman Max Gates confirmed that the company's restructuring plan calls for the sale or liquidation of eight plants, including the St. Louis North plant that manufactures Dodge Ram pickups.
Sale or Liquidation? That sounds different that 30-60 day closing for restructuring.

Hmm, that is interesting. That even makes me think more that all trucks on the line will be completed, if not they will be trashed. If the plant does not come back online the trucks in the plant would likely be destroyed rather than hauled someone else to be completed. This is also GREAT news for Michigan, that means the Warren plant will pick up business.
May 4th is the day all plants shut down, it is all over the net for whoever asked that question. The issue is some plants are running short on supplies and some vendors are refusing to deliver.

After paint, they still have to do an interior right? And there is a lot of things that can go wrong there.
