Default What tires for 2wd street truck?

I really want to change the stock rims and tires but can not decide what size to go with. I do tow with the truck but no more than 4500lbs so I think either 20 or 22 rims will work. It just seems like I'm have a hard time finding a street tire that will match the stock tire height. I've seen a few 305/55/20 but most of these are 4x4 tires. And I've found some 305/45/22 but I'm worried there would not be enough sidewall with these for towing. Any help would be great! I would just like a wider more sporty looking tire and rim.

20" tires alone are going to cost at least $1000 for four. (good ones) I would change the rims, but keep the stock size tire. JMHO.

I really like the Michelin LTX MS in the 20 inch size. I don't care for the Falkens on my son's Silverado. They are not nearly as smooth and they seem to change balance frequently. You can balance them and then after about 2 or 3K miles, they start getting rough and need to be balance again. I have never seen a tire do that.

Have you checked discounttire or tirerack? There are quite a few options out there. Discounttire shows 11 options in the stock size of 275/60/20 ranging from $138/ea to $269/ea. These are all (except for 1 or 2) street tires basically.

You could also look for something a little wider if you wanted more grip, but there are plenty of choices.

If you look at the stock size (32.99") and then look for wider tires close to 33" it would need to be 305-55-20 (33.21"). I can't find anyone that makes a 305-55-20 in a street tire. The 305-45-22 is 32.81" but that might not have enough sidewall. 305-50-20 would be a very common tire and easy to find but I will loose 1" of overall tire and .5" of sidewall. I just wish I could find a street tire that would be within 1/4 or the stock size. I would like to know what other people have put on their street truck.

FYI, 305/55/20 on stock rims will rub. Even 305/50/20 rubs a little, but not too bad.

Would you need new rims with more offset to run the 305-50-20's without rubbing?
