Storage Solution Questions
Hi,
I have a 2009 RAM 1500 SLT Crew Cab, this is my first pickup truck. I am looking at some storage solutions and a Tonneau Cover.
As for the Tonneau Cover I am leaning towards the BakFlip G2 (just for the fact that it will allow me to haul large items, I also looked at the Undercover Tonneau but I just liked the way the Bakflip G2 looks on the truck), then I plan on getting the Mopar Bed Extender. For storage I am just going to get a Rubbermaid box and use that in the back (using the Bed Extender to stop it from moving around).
Now for the questions:
1) I know the Bed Extender flips but does the bed extender remove easily when not needed?
2) Does the Bed Extender fit with the BacFlip G2 fully closed?
3) The BakFlip G2 will it install if I get the Pickup Box Utility Rails (from Mopar)?
4) Are most people just using a Rubbermaid Box?
Thanks

Just use a cargo bar to keep things from sliding around. Some have trigger grips for easy extending and retraction.
I am looking for a bed cover too. Dodge quoted one at $1200 and change. I can get my color (deep water blue). Its the hard top type.
Does anyone know if the cover will work without a locking tailgate?

The bed extender that came with my truck is a little hard to get on and off the tailgate supports, but easy to install as a bed divider. It also has a locking mechanism (when used as a bed divider) that uses your key to unlock, so no one can steal it. I like mine very much.
Like EricVaBeach, I have the unique (and Great imho) adjustable "anywhere" Truck Bed Extender / Divider that comes with the RamBox. It is VERY different than the "solid barred 'U' shaped Dodge MOPAR Bed Extender. It is designed to fit across the truly box-like straight sides of the RamBox (no wheel well bulges). Instead of U-shaped, it is straight with half-length "wings" that fold inside the main gate when used as a divider but which stretch out and attach to special bolts with large hand-sixed toggles to make the extender. Used as a divider, the gate ends wedge into the corregations of the RamBox sidewalls - like a child-gate in a doorway - and which has a keyed lock to keep it in your posession.
I think it is one of the really smart innovations that come along with the RamBox.

I agree with you and I wish that Dodge would find a way to design one for the non-rambox version trucks. I'd buy one in an instant.

I purchased the extang hard tonneau and paid 650.00 delivered. It's the tri fold. The best cover yet and only takes two minutes to remove.

I have a Bakflip G2 and I like the look. Very slick and fairly easy to use. But it's bothersome to have to life the last piece of the cover to close the tailgate.
As for removal and installation, as long as the rails are not moved, the cover is held in place with 2 hand tightened bolts. Simple to do, but the cover is fairly heavy and cumbersome.
The rails should fit as the tonneau only covers less than an inch of the rail. I have full access to the square tie down holes if that helps.

I have the BakFlip G2 with a Bestop bed extender and there is no problem with it fitting under the tonneau. The Bestop is easily removed. As for Rubbermaid...we are thinking about the same thing as no tonneau is 100% waterproof.
