Default Trans failure?

My son was on his way home from work in his 09 crew cab SLT 5.7L hemi w/ 2200 mi. on it and the trans seemed to give out. The engine would rev up in drive but not move. He was able to idle home at 5 mph for 6 blocks. Towed to dealer and have not heard yet. Did the trans fail?

Could be, or the transfercase if it is a 4wd, or the spider gears in the rear diff.

Did he pull the dipstick and see what the fluid looked like?

No we just called radside assistance and had it towed. Should have tried it again as it is so electronic mabey it reset something. But I'm not checking fluid on a brand new truck under warranty.

And there you have it, under warranty. You will be fine. This is not a common issue, first one I have heard of.

My son is upset about it, but these things happen. I liked his so much I traded my 08 Ford F150 in on an 09 Ram myself. I just hope it holds up to the Ford.

Its a machine, sometimes they fail. I agree it sucks but it doesn't matter what kind of machine it is if you produce thousands and thousands of them, you are bound to have a few that fail.

Let us know what caused the failure, we can all learn from this. AND don't forget to check your fluids, tranny fluid is no exception.

I know its your son and you have an obligation to protect him, but could he have been doing brake stands or neutral drops?

I know when I was in college I ripped up a tranny in a 93 Formula, certainly was not the fault of the product

I'd have checked it, just out of curiosity.

On a brand new vehicle, I check the oil and trans dipsticks before I drive it off the dealer lot.

Thats why I mentioned it.....Lots of us gear-heads broke our vehicles. I had a 1980 Mustang and a 79 Camaro, I spent more time under those cars fixing something I broke than I did driving them

I am interested why as well. People have been towing with them and driving them across country. I know I made a 2200 mile trip in mine with 0 issues.
