What size power inverter
i used my laptop on the power inverter just fine in my laramie

I have it on my SLT but then again its got the console option. Earlier in this thread I posted t was good for 10 amps but I just went outside an looked at it said 150 watts, heck that only makes it good for a little over 1 amp.

yep your right, heck my drill motor probably pulls more than that!

haha yah your drill would for sure pull more then that that plug in the dash is really only good for cell phone chargers and laptops lots of people debate that they are not good to use to charger cordless tools because of the square wave as mentioned but lots also say they have never had a problem .. im not educated enough to really argue either way but at 150 watts its more of a decoration ..for myself any ways

Yeah unfortunately mine didn't come with the inverter in the dash. It's an SLT Bighorn. I have a couple small ones i've used in the past, but they overload when I plug things like a laptop in them. I checked the stickers on some of the appliances in my house and suprisingly, of all the things I would want to temporarily run off an inverter, the space heater took the most juice. Says it requires 1500 watts to run. The deep freezer requires a lot to start, but took I think only took 400 watts running.
Does anyone know a way to tell how much power the alternator produces? Would it say on it somewhere? Is there a resource that might tell you this? I've tried googleing it and had no luck. I'm thinkinking I mainly need to know the amps, right?
Wouldn't the alternator (amps) x volts (12) = watts and thus give me an idea of the maximum watt inverter I can use? I'm not really electrically savvy, this is just what I've come up with so far.

Personally I wouldn't bother for cell phones and laptops, since 12VDC cords or DC-DC step up transformers are usually available for both.

guys you are talking about the trucks electrical system that runs at 12 volts NOT 120 volts like your house...most stock plugs put out about 100 watts or 10 amps max.

No, they are talking about the built in DC-AC invertor that some trucks have.
