Without dyno pulls and measuring your A/F ratio, the stock air tube is fine, you do not want to change the MAF sampling area without measuring your A/F ratio, especially at WOT. All we can do is open the end up for more air input for now as there are no tuner/intake packages available ( this is what I miss from the Ford F150 tuning ). Keeping the heat shield/air box is good so you do not get heat soaked off the line.

Here is some WOT information.
WIDE OPEN THROTTLE MODE
This is an Open Loop mode. During wide open throttle operation, the PCM receives the following inputs.
- Battery voltage
- Crankshaft position sensor
- Engine coolant temperature sensor
- Intake manifold air temperature sensor
- Manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor
- Throttle position sensor (TPS)
- Camshaft position sensor signal
- Voltage is applied to the fuel injectors with the ASD relay via the PCM. The PCM will then control the injection sequence and injector pulse width by turning the ground circuit to each individual injector on and off. The PCM ignores the oxygen sensor input signal and provides a predetermined amount of additional fuel. This is done by adjusting injector pulse width.
- The PCM adjusts ignition timing by turning the ground path to the coil(s) on and off.

With a little ingenuity an elbow and a conical filter I can't see why someone can't just make their own cold air box.....the airaid is a copy of the original box without a lid and fitting a conical filter..so to me the original is already a cold air box is it not, it gets the air from the exact same spots...if you don't buy the hose with it just think about what you really get and for how much.

As the starter of this thread I want to thank all of you for your input. The last few replys were very interesting regarding just puting a good high flow filter in the box that came with the truck. My only question now is why a conical filter? What advantages does it have over, lets say, a K&N high flow replacement filter that is around $50-$60?

We just resolved a big ordeal about CAIs (in the 2nd gen section). They are not CAIs, wherever the air is drawn from. When the air comes into the intake manifold, the air is heated by the hot motor and even heated more when it goes into the Hemi head. By the time that the air is in the combustion chamber, it is not cold, and will not have an effect on the performance of the combustion. More air > Cold Air.
