That's what was told to me last week when I had my truck in for the RRT's. The service guy said they will know when an oil of something other than 5w-20 has been used. Again I use the Motorcraft 5w-20 syn blend. Have been using it in other cars I've owned in the past few years and have been pleased. I also use Wix filters... the best IMO.

nope bone stock including air cleaner, used it for towing.

 

OK - since the 2009's come with a lifetime powertrain warranty, and if you have an extended warranty -- will you void either warranty by not changing every 3K miles as recommended? I have heard that, if you don't get oil changes from dealers, you'll have to provide proof that you've changed the oil as recommended by schedule - and if you can't prove or haven't - they can refuse to honor your warranty.

 

You used a Viper V10 for towing? Or did it have the V10 truck motor?

 

It seems reasonable that they would require proof of maintenance, especially if the problem that you are having could be caused by lack of maintenance.

 

The owners manual says a maximum of 6k in between changes. If you can prove the oil was changed every 6k, you will be fine.

I am getting oil samples to go along with my 6k oil to be sure it is still good.

 

How do you know it was the oil's fault? 236K is a lot of miles, especially for that big V-10.

The carbon was where exactly? In the cylinders, crank case, or every where?

Why did the engine blow?

I just had my first oil change done at 4000Km
I put in Amsoil 5w20.
The dealer originally said I could do 10 000 km between oil changes, considering that I tow every day I was not about to stretch it that far on factory oil.

 

The dealers will put the proper oil in they know what your truck needs and allways use the right oil cause if they dont it can cause the CEL to come on and the MDS not to operate.
