Many new cars are shipped with synthetic oil in them from the factory. Synthetics are no "slicker" than mineral based stock so break in is not an issue. Synthetics do have a benefit in that they do not have paraffins and other impurities that were not able to be refined out of the mineral base stock. The hydrocarbon chains of synthetics also do not break down as easily and do not contain viscosity enhancer molecules that break down lowering your viscocity rating over time and use. That being said, I recommend that you change your oil at 2,500 and 5000 miles, then every 5,000 miles afterward. You can use any quality name brand oil you wish. I think the best for the buck is Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 5W20.

Exactly. I completely disagree when people argue we need to change our oil at 3000 miles, unless of course, that person tows a heavy trailer everyday.

I am going to have mine changed by someone else the first time and have them install my Fumoto valve at the same time. I have used one on my Duramax for 7 years and it makes oil changes a breeze.
