Default Towing Question

Towing a trailer with electronic brakes. Do I have to add a controller to the truck to make the brakes work or do they work when I use the trucks brakes ? I have the factory tow harness. Thanks in advance...Joe

I believe they will apply with the vehicle brakes, but if you want more/seperate control you have to add the controller.

You need a controller. The factory 7 pin will not apply any power to the trailer brakes unless you have a controller tied into the harness.

Absolutely you will need a controller box. I am just getting ready to mount one for my trip next week. I just noticed I did not get a wire harness (pigtail) with my truck for the controller box, I did on my 04 Ram.....is it something they forgot or is it extra now? Looks like a trip to the dealer?

If you got a decent controller then you can buy a harness from them that will have the dodge plug and the plug for the controller. The harness for my P3 cost $15 on ebay.

When I ordered my truck with the Tow Package, the Pigtail was right there in the Glovebox when they delivered it to my dealer...

Called my salesman this am, he said some trucks with tow package have the pigtail in the glove box and some dont.........Consistancy? Anyway he took one from one on the lot and gave it to me. He indicated he was as confused about the consistancy as I was.
