Default My Retrofit Camera

Got a great deal on my 2009 Laramie, but it did not have the rear camera that is so handy when hitching/towing. Due to all the delays with the OEM cameras being backordered, I went ahead and went with something else. I purchased the allgig from nav-tv (let's you watch DVD's and work navigation while moving, and input camera) and the a CCD camera from a seller on ebay. The resolution on these CCD cameras is just plain awesome, day or night. Install was pretty easy and only took a couple of hours. I took the handle out and made the hole with a Dremel tool. I put it where the keyhole would go, since I don't have a locking tailgate, but can also be installed to the left of the handle. Bottom line, this is something that can be done easily, faster and cheaper than waiting for the dealer to get the camera and do the install. Just another option for those wanting to do this.

Sweet looking camera. Care to share the ebay link where you found it? I've been wanting to replace the cheap Audiovox license plate camera I installed. Thanks.

Here is the link to the one I installed. It comes with several different rings so you can angle it if needed.

If you are going to place it to the left of the handle, you might want to order the one with the built in IR. This camera is a little shorter which is better, since the one I used might interfere with the interior mechanism of the handle IF installed to the LEFT of the handle.

As for video quality, it's probably the best I have seen and I have had factory cameras on my past vehicles, BMW and Infiniti. I honestly don't think that the IR's make a big difference at night. The camera I have does not have the IR's and the night time view is simply awesome. Just make sure you get a CCD camera. It is well the worth the extra money.

Yeah. Nice job. I would like to install the auto gate lock that was discussed in another thread at the same time!
What a great mod. Any pics and/or complete instructions for the install?

I didn't know it would do that! My wife wants to watch the movie with the kids (they have ceiling mount DVD with wireless headphones.)

Dreaded double-post. Clearly my use of the quote feature sucks too!
