Here is my oil sample. The oil was changed at around 3000 miles. This sample is from 3000 miles to about 9100 miles. There is exactly 6100 miles on this sample. I drive on the highway and in the city. I live in Iowa, so not really sandy. I occasionally drive on dirt roads.

I cleaned the K&N when I changed the oil. There is no evidence my K&N let in silica.

There is also still additive in the oil, so 6000 mile oil change intervals with Castrol Synthetic 5W-20 should be fine for anyone who drives like me. I did not tow at any time during this oil change.



Currently I am running Castrol Conventional 5W-20 and am probably going to take it to 5000 miles and then have it tested.

Great info Sarguy, according to popular beliefs of the gauze filters I thought you would have seen more gravel in your oil.

Well it depends on many things, but if the filter is just a drop in it won't see as much dirt as an open one. Since my setup on my 04 is an open filter I am staying away from oiled cotton like k&n. I am guessing the copper is from an oil cooler.

Yes, there is copper in bearings but I believe if it was from the bearings you would see tin and lead readings as well. Have you found out if there is an oil cooler yet?

 

Really cool. I may just add this to my annual Mx regimine following a couple break-in tests too.
