Better mileage than a V6??
Apparently so. We packed up my 09 SLT for a road trip down to Daytona over the 4th of July holiday for the NASCAR race, and on the trip down the big Ram made 18.5 mpg (per the dash monitor) and 17.5 on the trip back in all kinds of crummy weather.
My buddy whom we went to visit down there says his V6 Sport Track won't even touch 18 on it's best day.
What sort of mpg's have you guys been getting around town, or on the open road?
Edit:
Crap, just realized I should've put this in the "official" mpg thread. I'll move my post. Can a mod kill this thread please?

Not to change the subject, but whenever I see an MPG post on this or any truck forum, I always think of it as if I were in a sports car forum reading about whether a Viper or Corvette can tow the largest trailer, or in a Minivan Forum reading about which family hauler is best for attracting the opposite sex
I did not buy my truck with fuel economy in mind, and think it's a little strange to think anyone would put too much emphasis on it. I own a few sports cars, and I occasionally get asked about the MPG on them, to which I always just shrug and say I have no idea (which I really don't). I just don't see the point in thinking about it.
My 87 Kota gets 20 highway, even without overdrive. Maybe you missed a verry eye opening episode of Tor Gear. They took a Toyota Prius and ran it against a BMW 328i. The Prius driver was told to get around the track as fast as he could, the BMW's job was simply to keep pace with the Toy. The result? the BMW actualy got better milage during this test, because the Prius was running flat out the whole time, and the 328i was nowhere near it's limits. how you drive has as much to do with milage as what you drive, if not more. you probably don't push your truck as hard as he pushes his.
Oh sport trac, not sport truck. I've NEVER gotten good gas milage out of any Ford, ever.

I had a 99 4.0L ranger - the 4.0L never was much for milage, but it would pull a lot of trailer for a little motor. My 5.4L F150 got better milage than the ranger ever did.

I have put almost 10k on my truck since Feb. I can add the price of gas up since I kept track of it, but roughly I have put 1660$ worth of gas into it. If I could get 1 mile to the gallon better, I would have only spent 1560$. Imagine the savings with 3-4 mpg. Don't get me wrong, I am not cheap, but I could think of a few other places to spend 100$.
My readout always reads slightly high also. I've been getting just under 18 mpgs hand calculated since new. That is a mix, not horsing it. That is with the 3.92s and 20" rims. Not bad at all IMHO.
I can see asking about MPG. A small amount of difference on a lower MPG vehicle makes for huge savings so it is a legit topic to discuss. All I know is that with the updates they have done to the Hemi from 05 to 09, my mileage has gone up about 3 MPG. That is big news to me and a lot of other people.
