Default body coloured grill?

hi

i'm in the process of buying a 2009 1500 4x4 crew cab sport, I have driven it at the dealer and am looking into the financing now. However the truck has a body coloured(red) grill , Whereas on the dodge website the same truck has a chrome grill. Is there a reason for this difference in spec or is it just a simple case of being one of the colour options?

any help greatfully recived

thanks tom

Tom,
Sport models come with grill and bumpers painted to match, they basicly don't have any or very little chrome on them.

You must be in Canada. I've heard the Canadian 09 Sport grilles come body colored. In the US the 09 Sport has a chrome grille with no option for a body colored surround. I had to order a TRX grille, which has the colored surround and a black insert, and then change out the black insert in order to get the body colored grille.

The Sports in previous years came with body colored grilles in the US but the 09's do not.

Yeah, Canada only gets the painted grill on the Sport which is the way they all should of came. If you want chrome, I'm sure you will be able to buy one since there are countless people switching to the painted ones.

He is from Canada based on the spelling of colored. But the above info is correct about the US/Canada difference in the grills on sports.

Seems like everyone that is modding their trucks go for the painted grill on the sport. I haven't done mine yet, but it's on my "to do" list. For me it's that the bumpers, door handles and everything else has had the chrome removed, yet they added a chrome grill, and chrome inserts to boot. The old generation Sports had everything painted, so why they threw the chrome grill in there is beyond me, especially when you have a painted one on another trim line. It's especially bewildering that the US gets the chrome, while Canada doesn't. Guess Chrysler thought Americans were more into chrome.

Just my opinion, but I'd say you're lucky your Sport will come with the painted bumper.

As for which is better, depends on the color of the truck and what you are after.

I agree silver are fine with a chrome grill, maybe white as well, but that is where I would stop.
