Default Multi Displacement Question,(MDS) 09 ram laramie

Alright, I have a new 2009 dodge ram 1500 laramie, and i am not a fan of the Multi Displacement System (MDS), and im not worried about gas, so is there any way I could take it off or turn the mds off. I basically have to floor it to get out of 4 cylinder mode and i would really like to be running 8 cylinders all the time. Hope you guys can help!

Have never heard of having to floor it to get out of the MDS mode. Something is wrong if that is the case. What make you think that it is staying on? Do you have the indicator? Mine kicks out very easily when you give it a tiny bit of gas. Works pretty seamlessly.

You can put the truck in "Tow Haul" mode and it will be turned off.

Hi All:
I am retired now, but when I worked I had a sign in my ofice that said " The least used of mans senses is COMMON". Why would you not want to ride around on a 145 HP engine at 1/3 less money(GAS) and be able to blow off most trucks, and quit a few cars, just by stomping on the gas pedal?

Do you understand how a gasoline engine works?

An engine only puts out maximum horsepower when it's under full load, i.e. you'd have to be flooring it all the time. When you're just cruising around town, you're nowhere near full load, you're probably putting out around 1/4 of the max output. That's true of any naturally aspirated engine, in any vehicle.

The MDS will shut down half the cylinders under low load conditions, saving gas. You may not be concerned with fuel savings, that's fine, but if you turn off the MDS you will see no benefit, it's just physics. You'll be needlessly wasting fuel.

if you were building a drag car or a full race car and actually racing it I could see doing this but on a driver WHY?

Cuz he wants to and so might I, would be nice to have it in the EVIC, MDS on or off also the torque convertor management system would be nice to shut off.
I am with you I didn't buy this truck expecting to save gas, I just liked the suspension, ride, quietness, interior, 3 things i don't like, chrome clad anything, too high off the ground, the Hemi should look more impressive not a maze of ugly plastic tubes and boxes.
Oh ya the RAM badge should be smaller or on the pavement not the truck.
