The next nearest dealer is 80-90 miles away. I will gladly make the drive if it means addressing the problem... the boss will throw a fit and dock me because I'll have to take off, but he'll just have to throw a fit.

I am keeping full documentation of the problem.

Call Chrysler make sure it is documented there email them.

Also tell the dealership that it must be burning the oil then. If it is not leaking it must be burning it.

Hey, we have lifetime powertrain warranty. But, you are right, nip it in the butt right away if there is a problem..

Your talking ONE Qt per 3000 miles if I'm reading your post correctly? If so not a darn thing will be done.Thats way in the normal range.Try a DIFFERANT brand of oil.

Ya I was gonna say that, is it their pump oil? Bring your own oil next time, or just dump the oil in there now, leave the filter alone put some expensive oil in 5w20 and check it for a while and see if it still obviously burns it, maybe they should hoook it to the emissions machine, won't burning oil cause it to fail? I don't know this I am really asking.

It would have to burn a LOT of oil to fail emissions.

That amount of oil consumption is NOT AT ALL normal for one of these trucks, particularly a new one. Even the service guy agreed it is abnormal. Take it elsewhere-the idea that because it's not leaking externally means it can't be fixed is retarded. It seems that because they're being dumbasses that they want you to be one too, and just ignore the problem. I wouldn't do that-I'd take it to a dealership that actually wants to fix it. I can't imagine that their guidelines force them to ignore gross over-consumption of oil just because it's not running down the side of the engine.

If its ONE QUART in three thousand miles its in a normal range for ANY manufacture. To a engineer its NOT a problem.Owners manual I bet says CHECK OIL EVERY FILL UP. You'll get a song/dance and a Oh My but thats about it.I agree that to the OWNER it may not be acceptable and to me it might not be acceptable but in reality its way in the NORMAL range and won't warrant pulling a motor apart.First try a differant brand of oil.

I still can't agree with you about that being normal. I've never had any new vehicle or any of my 3 Dodge Rams, all bought new, burn that much oil.

You are absolutely correct. The dealer gave me a formal statement from Chrysler/ Fiat (whatever it is) that burning "one quart of oil for every 1,000 miles driven is within the acceptable range" and no action will be taken.

I can polish my exhausts and within 200 miles the bottom halves of them are black. I will switch oils, at the next change, but what does this mean for the longevity of the truck, anything?
