I am about to send another sample in. I think I am going to change my oil in the next week.

I am currently using Castrol conventional. I have 5000 miles on it. I will post results.

Wix,Mobile and Pure one are quality filters.Castrol Syntec,Pennzoil Platinum,Valvoline Syn power, Mobil 1 (not the extended drain Mobil 1)and AMSOIL XL series are a Group three oil. They are good for twice yearly oil changes and up to about 8k.The OTHER Amsoils are EXTENDED drain oils Group 4 and have a more robust additive pack and a lot more money. So is their Nanofiber filters designed for 15k plus. The OTHER long drain Group 4 is Redline. For the LIFETIME Powertrain warranty 6 and 6 is required or by the oil life monitor. No point in using Group 4 oils if following the manufactures guidelines.www.bobistheoilguy.com I'm using Amsoil XL series oil and a Wix filter.I like ordering my oil and filters. If I was not ordering and buying at a store I'd probably use Pennzoil Platinum. It is thought a lot of on the oil sites.More then standard Mobil 1.If they are NOT a EXTENDED drain capable oil they are Group 3 oils. Not the real deal Group4.

If you do not race, beat on the truck, or do extreme off-roading, why not just follow the owners manual. Mopar or similiar quality filter and 5w20 oil. Synthetic was not recommended by the engine builder. The 09's came with a lifetime powertrain warranty with this recommendation so save your money for mod's! Just change it every 4-5k miles. Also, if you must have a synthetic for some reason, Motorcraft has a synthetic blend you can get at Walmart for just over 2 bucks a quart. Just my .02 here since I have had 200k on past vehicles and now have 170k on a Grand Caravan simply using what the owners manual recommended.

Save my money for mods?

Lets calc that...

To make it easy 5K changes
Syn is 22 for 5qt at Wally World
Conventional... What is it at now for cheap stuff? $2? So 10?

That is about $15 per 5K (since we need 7 QT). That is $300 over the life of a truck (assuming you will go no longer than 100K) and 6 years at 15K a year. So in 6 years you will have $300, which MIGHT buy you a CAI....

If you want to run dino that is fine, but to say save the extra for mods makes no sense. Maybe a nice lunch or an average dinner after doing the change

Haven't done my first oil change yet, but have always used Mobil One syn. With the recomended oil chg intervals at 6k miles, the extra money is nothing compared to the piece of mind that comes with it. For the price, A/C filters are some of the best on the market. Never had any problems with them. Jeff.

Sure, the $300 savings according to your synthetic price ( not RP or some others mentioned ) would buy the bedliner, vent visors, tail and third brake light covers or replace the chrome radio antenna etc... These are all lifetime of the truck mods. And yes, it is not *that* much of a difference but there are many cheap mod's. So the point was real simple, the OP asked for the best oil and filter, you can just follow the advised service interval with the advised product according to your owners manual and you get your lifetime powertrain warranty. Seems like a no brainer here..

I just did my first oil change at 2000 miles (the indicator light did not come on; I just wanted to do it because I do a lot of city driving/short trips). I had an extra Motorcraft 820S filter which also fits the Ram, so I used that along w/ 7 quarts of Quaker State 5w20. I ran QS in my F-150 for 10 years and never had a problem, so I'm not sure if I'll switch to syn for the new Ram.

I had 2 coupons for free oil change/tire rotations from the dealer when I bought the truck and received a discount one in the mail for the 3rd oil change. They use Quaker State as well. I have 2 820S filters left from the F150 as well and will use them once the coupons stop arriving..
