Default gear swap on 09 ram hemi

I want to swap the gutless 3.21 for a 3.92. I know the speedometer wont need recalibrating but will the shift points need to be adjusted? I want to go into this knowing what needs to be done and not take any dealers word for it.Can anyone tell me exactly what needs to be done? Thanks.

The TCM (Transmission Control Module) learns driver habits and keeps adapting. I don't think you should have any problems changing gears. The TCM will adapt to it automatically since our transmission is electronically controlled. Better yet, disconnect the battery for a few minutes to reset the PCM/TCM after you swap gears. Then the truck will have to relearn your driving habits with the new gears as well as relearn when to use MDS with the new gears.

I know this because I have a service manual. I never read anything about different shift points with different gears.

Swapping from 3.55 to 4.10 is still on my wish list of mods. I've priced it out at a couple of places around town and it seems like it'll be $1200 or so to get it done. That's changing the gear ratio, adding an Auburn Pro LSD, and then labor. If you skip the LSD unit, you'll probably knock about $450 off of that.

If you don't know what is involved, you will not be able to do it. Setting up gears is a tedious process that requires a number of special tools. I've done about a dozen sets in jeeps but am still not confident enough to do it in one of my daily drivers. Around here it would cost you about $500-$600 in labor to get the job done, plus the new gears and a master install kit.

$1200 does seem really cheap. Make sure they are using a quality gearset and master install kit. I suppose it's possible that they are reusing bearings at that price, I sure wouldn't.

4:10 gears for a 9.25 - $331
Master Install kit for the newer 9.25 $185
Auburn LSD for 9.25 $420
Gear oil - $20

You're at $956 just in parts

just to add to this list for those that aren't savy on gears

if you have a 4x4, you have to do both the front and rear at the same time. double the gear and master kit price.
