What are the best performance mods.

From what i'm hearing the Performance Tuners give you get the most results. What is the best Tuner brand.

I've looked under the hood and I'm not sure what advantage the CAI would make on the 09 Dodge it looks like it is pulling air in away from the engine heat already. I guess maybe replacing/ insulating the Intake tube might help?? Thoughts?

I've heard mixed results for the Exhaust and replacing the muffler/CAT back system. do you really see any performance gains from replacing it?

Thanks in advance,

Glen

There are multiple threads discussing each one of these questions in detail. If you do a search for any of your keywords up there, you can find these answers. We also have a FAQ section for this stuff as well

I've read most of the post but I've seen no concession on what is the best and if they are actually gaining any benefit out of the CAI or the exhaust systems.

Well a few people w/ the true flow XDI said they had increase mpg w/ that intake, but they went out of business. As for exhaust cut out the factory y-pipe and either replace it w/ a true dual system or a new magnaflow y-pipe and magnaflow muffler. Custom exhaust from a local shop will usually be cheaper than an aftermarket kit. The best looking CAI so far is the volant w/ a sealed box and powercore filter made by donaldson it will filter and flow well.

I heard that CAT backs where not that good you should replace the entire exhaust system to get true gains. your thoughts?

There is no one on here that has actually bought a full exhaust, or any exhaust, and proved it made more power on the dyno.

Doug Thorley is the only one I know of who makes headers for a 2009, I don't know of any midpipes, and there are a few cat backs. If you want a full exhaust, you are going to need to make or have a custom one made. If you touch the cats, you are going to have check engine lights and possibly void your warranty.

I never believe a company's "dyno proven" results. I always wait for people to dyno or give track times. Problem is, most people aren't looking for a better 1/4 mile time out of their truck.

gotya. I'll probably go with the mufflex.

I've heard good things about the True flow xtreme duty intake kit but true flow also has a kit that just replaces the tube to the filter box. I wonder if anyone has had any resolts with it. I think its called the 30501 kit.

gaorenst, true flow never made that type of kit for the 09's as far as I know, but it can still be found for 3rd gens and other vehicles. True flow is out of business so if your looking for an intake from them it will be harder to come by now.

My personal opinion is against mufflex since I got custom work done which removed the stock y-pipe, put in and bent new pipe, and put in a magnaflow muffler for the cost of a mufflex kit shipped. There are 2 easy places to remove restriction in the stock exhaust, first remove the stock y-pipe (replace it w/ magnaflow or flowmaster y) and then swap out the OEM muffler for an aftermarket that flows better. The factory y-pipe is essentially 2 smaller pipes smashed into one slightly larger one and as such is a point of restriction. It's exactly the same on the 3rd gen's and is a common exhaust mod to remove/replace it.
