I just had a discussion about this with my service advisor and one of the techs. I was told that the oil and filter must me changed every 3000 miles to keep the lifetime warranty in good standing. I told them that the information from Chrysler says it only has to be done every 6000 miles and they told me that was incorrect. I'd like to change every 5000 just to make it easier to remember.

It says 6000 miles in the manual, and I saw 3000 miles somewhere else - which I can't find now. I thought it was odd that the Ram only had one service schedule. Normally there is the regular and severe, and then they say that the regular doesn't apply to anyone

Every 3000 is just too much oil changing to me. Chrysler says 6000 so 5000 should be more than ok, I also change mine every 5000 to keep things simple.
If they want hard proof of 3000 mile changes then I don't want their stupid warranty anyway

It all depends on how you drive your truck, but usually if you use synthetic oil, you should be OK changing it every 4000-5000 miles.

I started using synthetic at first oil change (3,000) and change it with the filter every 3,000 miles. Maybe to much but I do tow and use it alot in city driving in a very hot state.

Default @ 5500 Miles when EVIC Message Came On

I changed mine when the EVIC message came on at about 5500 miles. I just use regular oil since I have 6 years worth of coupons..just don't see the need to pay extra for the synthetic right now.

Whomever said 3000 miles to keep the warranty, hasn't read the warranty. Oil is very dependent on driving, the life, additive package, moisture, etc all play on when it should be changed. If you tow every weekend, and/or make a lot of short trips where your oil never gets up to temp, its severe driving and the oil should be changed more frequently, and a synthetic might be considered as well. The oil service light should tell you as well if you're driving is more severe.

I drive a lot of highway, and I don't tow all that often, so my driving habits are very easy on oil. I could probably get away with a conventional, but it does get hot down here, and the synthetic does a better job regarding the moisture. So I change every 6000, and for 7qts every change, 3k miles would just be way too much or if I did, I would likely use a conventional.

I say 5 to 6k with standard oil or longer with synthetic, but i would not want the same oil filter if i went longer than 6k so i see no need in using synthetic. I don't disagree that the synthetic oil is better but it is not worth the extra money for the little gains expecially with a lifetime warranty.
