Well even financing for '10's is only 36 months for the low rates, here in Canada anyway but you can get select left over 09's for 0percent up to 72 months, that alone is worth it. Only thing is you have to plan on keeping it for some time to get your money out of it cuz you lose a year right away. No biggy.

As I said, I think they lowered the 2010 prices because they are killing the lifetime warranty and this limits the reserve of profit they have to cover on each vehicle, and the incentives being lowered also allowed them to lower the price. I do not think it's likely you will see $14000 discounts in December/January on 2010's as a result.

I was looking for an 09 Ram Hemi leftover and the dealer found one in the next state so they gave me a price based on the rebates for 09. When they went to pick it up, the other dealer sold it on them so they gave me the 2010 for the price of the 09 with the rebates. Pretty good deal.

In reality you lost the lifetime warranty and since the 2010's are less on the MSRP, I am not sure how good of a deal that is. Knowing what I do about the transmissions on these trucks I would not own one without the lifetime warranty.

It depends on how you look at this. If he trades again in less than 5 years he will have a transferable warranty with the 2010 and the 2009 warranty is only to the original owner. Also a newer model year is almost always an advantage at trade-in.
I think if he got the deal for the same money and all the incentives of the 2009, he got a great deal!!!

Only a good deal if he doesn't tow. I would not have bought a Dodge without the lifetime powertrain warranty. Rams are notorious for eating transmissions.

I guess that is true, but since I keep my trucks (I still have my 02 Chevy I bought new) I prefer to have the warranty. If you have not read up on the transmissions on Dodge trucks, I would suggest you do so. He did not actually discuss pricing and I am wiling to bet he did not get anywhere near what many of the 09 guys got off MSRP.

OK, just what is this about the transmissions? I've had three Rams, a 95,99, and a 03. All half tons with automatics. Never had a problem with any of them. I've used them plenty and at times have towed way over what they are rated for. (Up to 12500 pounds with payload and trailer) Am I just lucky or what? I'm supposed to pick up my 2010 Laramie tomorrow and I feel pretty confident it will serve me well. If I wasn't confident in their transmission I would look to another brand.
Personally I have seen more problems with GM transmissions but there are a lot of them used around here so maybe the ratio is about the same.
So what is the weakness of the Dodge transmission?

Pretty lucky. Everyone I know who has towed frequently with a Dodge has had to replace transmissions around 70K miles.

I have seen multiple posts and comments about the tranny issues. More importantly the dealer I bought my truck from even commented about the tranny issues and how important the lifetime warranty was in that regard. I thought it sort of odd to almost badmouth your own product. I would say I bet he is not doing that any longer with the 2010's and loss of the lifetime warranty, but the dealer he worked for got the Axe as part of the Chrysler bankruptcy.
