Angry 4x4 shutter

I have a 2009 Ram quad cab 4x4 that I bought because my 2006 Dakota was totalled in an accident back in May. Now just to let you know that I love my truck it is really sharp looking and when I drive it in 2 wheel drive I love it well that's where it ends when I put it in 4 wheel drive the thing shutters like it has oval tires in the front or something. I brought the truck in to the dealer a couple of times and they could not find anything wrong with it then finally on Friday Dec 11th I went for a ride with the service manager and he agreed that there definitely was a problem. Today I dropped the truck off again and they dug deeper into the problem with Chrysler and the answer they gave was it is inherent in the design of the truck the Chrysler tech said. I cannot begin to believe that this would be true, I mean you pay $35,000 for a vehicle that shutters when you go down the road give me a break! If this is the way Dodge is going to do business then they deserve to go under, and this is coming from a guy that has been a dodge fanatic his whole life. So if you have one of these 4x4's take it out and put it in 4 wheel drive and get on it a little bit and see if you have the same issue. The dealer tried out two other new ones on the lot and said those did the same thing just not quite as bad as mine. I sincerely hope that the techs answer is not true because if it is this is the last Dodge I will own. Sorry guys but I am really frustrated on this one.

I live in Omaha and the last week we've had 14 inches of snow. I had the same problem you did. It's from the snow getting stuck in the rims and packs in tight and causes the truck to shake. It happened to me around 50 MPH. I took the truck in to get an oil change today and the service manager said it does it to all open rimmed wheels.

I'm not sure if it was snowing when it happened to you, but that's why it happened to me.

Your problem is not the same as what he is talking about. These trucks have a design problem with the front drive axle. It has nothing to do with any type of packed rim, it has to do with the rack & pinion being junk. This happens from a dead stop take off, it feels like what was stated (a oval tire). Funny thing is you can drive down the road at 70 and put the truck in 4x4 and it wont do it.

Used my 4X4 all this week for the first time since finally getting snow. Only been up to 40mph in 4x4 so far but not one wiggle or shake so far. Feels just like im in 2wd mode still, nice and solid. So they should be able to fix ones that do shake if thats the case? only 1400 miles on mine so far.
I will try when its safe and no traffic to go faster and see what its like and report back if I find anything different than stated.

+1 for my truck,
It's been snowing like crazy here and 4x4 is working perfectly, no shake or wobble, rides as smooth as silk. Dealer is giving you a line....

You didn't engage on a hard surface did you like asphalt or concrete? I drove in the snow a lot last year and the 4x4 performed really well.

you should test drive a new one on the lot with the mgr and see if you feel a difference and not buy what they tell you second hand. check your state local laws on the lemon law and make sure it's documented every time you bring it in for that problem. also, let them know that you will pursue the lemon law if they can not fix it to standards.

Mine rides smooth in 4x4 whether on pavement/concrete/mud, etc. Stop and go, up to 60mph...

I just had mine in the snow and muck this past weekend. No problems while in 4x4 mode. Rode smooth.

I have had no problems with mine at all and have had to use it several times hunting. I have also never had the truck in 4X4 on a paved road and never will.
