It's hard to tell. There's not enough information to prove it's a problem with the 4x4 or how it's being used. 4x4 engaged on a hard surface where friction is high can shutter or hop. That is normal. That's why it's suggested not to engage it when on such a surface. You want some slippage or softness under the tires when engaged. There has been some inquiry on whether the steering stabilizing system is beefy enough. I don't think it is but that's my opinion. It was a new design for the 09's. I think that can cause shaking or shuttering felt in the steering wheel. Then complaints of flat spots in the rims from sitting was a problem.

i tried to find the link. but basically ALL of the leveling kit guys have addressed this issue. sometimes it becomes more prominent with a kit up front. talked to ready lift about this. they claim. they have put a truck on a lift, (all 4 off the ground) put the truck in 4x4 and said you can watch the vibration coming somewhere from the transfer case/drive shaft or something....

its not on ALL trucks but im pretty sure it was an issue on a lot of em...

All I can say, is after having my rack & pinion along with the 2 front tires replaced (warranty) and putting the leveling kit back on, I have had no more problems. I would also suggest looking at your front tires for cupping and have the front end toe setting checked. I have seen 3 09s with a way off toe setting from the factory.

I have an 09 Crew Cab with a Hemi, and have had some what of the same problem. I was in the mud for the first time in 4 wheel drive and the front end made a popping or grinding noise and it felt like the gas pedal vibrated. I think this happened every time I spun the tires. I wasn't sure if it could have anything to do with the ESP and turned it off and still seemed to do it. I haven't taken it to a dealer to be looked at yet.

Default 4x4 shutter

Thanks for all the replies guys. The Dealership is going to replace the right front axle tomorrow so we will see what happens I will let you know what if anything changes. Just to let you know the first time I used the 4x4 it was in about 6 inches of snow on an unplowed stretch of I-91 from Springfield Mass to Windsor Ct with a speed of about 35 to 40 MPH. I did not feel anything while cruising only when accelerating. I do agree 4x4's should not be driven on hard dry surfaces. Don't get me wrong I really love my truck I am just not happy with this issue. I have had several 4x4 pickups over the past 20 years but this is the first time I have had a vibration with one. My 2004 Ram Hemi was really smooth in 4 wheel drive. I don't know I guess I will just wait and see. Thanks everyone for your input.

I had mine in 4 wheel twice. Once on snow/black ice another in the rain just after I did the Diablo and wanted to jump on it once. Both times was smooth.

Default shake at 50mph in 4x4

I have a 2010 Laramie 5.7 4x4. I have a similar problem with a shake at around 50 when in 4x4. I almost thought it was something to do with being in the econo mode as it only seemed to happen on light throttle. As soon as I kicked in the extra cylinders it seemed to go away. I'm thinking the econo mode can't handle power requirement for the 4x4 at that speed and the system doesn't know to kick it up.

Please post back with the results. There are more and more people with this problem that could use a fix.
