Most of the feedback you're hearing about Fram is based on a bogus study published by someone with an ax to grind about Fram. Here's a post that refutes most of his study

http://www.ricksfreeautorepairadvice...thing-you-read

Also, every filter manufacturer makes cheapo filters and top-of-the-line filters. Here's a great article with cut-away photos that shows the difference between a cheap filter and a premo unit

P.S. I do not work for Fram and do not get anything for defending them. I just felt like they were getting a bum rap.

Mobil 1 oil & filters. Ok, except for the last oil change since I had a coupon for a free oil change w/ filter, so I let them use the Mopar filter, but I still had them use my Mobil 1, purchased at Walmart for $21 - 22 per 5 quarts.

I need some advice about filters.
I have several Motorcraft 820s filters left over from when I had a Ford. Will these work?
What filters could I buy from Discount Auto and Walmart?
Will using other than Chrysler filters affect the lifetime warranty?
Thanks,
Jack

I would recommend Napa Gold. I believe a previous post had correctly stated they are made by Wix which means good quality. I think Wix manufactures all the Amsoil brand oil filters too.

Tell that to my 502 with a dropped piston because the fram filter decided to obliterate itself internally.

The filter element itself is either glued together or has two measly staples holding it together.

Another brand that is usually made by purolatoer is MOPAR brand, but you need to be careful just for the fact that they switch Manufactures each production run based on bottom dollar.

K&N's are great, but no better than Wix or Nappa Gold filters. I get the impression that you pay more for that little nut on the end of the filter to aid in the removal.

In short, run what ever you think it best, but be forewarned if something happens later down the road. Hell, I ran Fram in my truck for about a year and ever since, I've had a nice little valve rattle on cold start ups. Classic sign of Fram issues. Now I run Wix and Wix only in every motor we own.

I stopped buying FRAM years back when I saw a cutout of it. They did have cardboard end caps. I'll never go back.
