Default Towing sucks

I had to trailer my Jeep home the other day and i wish i had used my 07 GMC! at 55-65 mph there is a terrible vibration when pulling the trailer.. I have pulled the same trailer with my GMC so i know it isn't the trailer! and gas mileage... i got about 9 mpg while towing.. i had to keep it around 70 because of the vibration.. i love the dodge but i'm beginning to wonder if i bought the right truck.

I had a terrible vibration also the first time I towed. Turned out it was the trailer tires. They had some pretty good flat spots from sitting. Got that fixed and then it towed like a champ at any speed.

Never noticed the issue with my 05 ram. I guess it must be the softer rear end.

One of mine was pretty bad so we swapped it out with the spare. Then I had them balanced.

With all the posts about vibration, I first though maybe I had an issue with the truck. But it only happened when towing so it was easy to figure that the trailer had to be the root cause. They threw the tires on a spin balancer and you could see the runout plain as day.

Hope you get it figured out without too much trouble. A lot of the trailer tires you buy are crap and apparently the rear end magnifies any issues you may have with balance and or runout.

Wasn't very happy with my first towing experience. Old VW bug in a 20' enclosed trailer. Truck didn't like it and said I got 5 mpg while towing.

I feel you, when I tow my 4500lb camper it suck the gas right out of the tank as you look at the guage. I went to New Brunswick on a 10 hr trip and had to fuel up 3 times. Thats 120 lts or 32 gallons every time. But on the bright side, it does much better without the trailer.

Only a 1000lb 12' Cargo trailer empty. 60-70mph. Avg 14mpg. 87octane

I was expecting better.

3.55 gear ratio and 32.2" tires

Maybe the PCM would keep the tranny in OD more often if I used 91+ octane.

I think this rig must have very sensitive anti-knock sensors that force it into lower gears than it needs to.

My 4.7 Dak with 4.10 gears which is only 500lbs lighter than the Ram will tow the same trailer at 60-70 and never downshift from OD.

I have a problem with the new coil springs in the back. My 7x14 trailer dropped the rear right down, made my wonder if I bought the right truck too. I had 08 ram cummins, let it go with injector problems and cost to maintain. I hate that I got rid of it. This thing goes in and out of OD like going thru gas. I am hoping someone comes out with rear air bags or I got to let it go. Hopefully it will get better??
