Rust problems
I washed my truck yesterday and noticed I have quite a few of these particles stuck on my tailgate. Being that my truck is white, they sure are noticeable. I'll wait until the Spring to have these taken care of.
brake dust dont get on the front bumper....i have rust all along the edge where the plastic meets it. bunch of specs on the back bumper and yes the back emblem and tailgate. i hit a deer about 8 months back and my truck goes in for repairs this week so ill talk to the dealer once the truck is fixed i guess
My rear bumper (chrome) has rust spots on the corners, likely from rock chips from the crap Alberta uses on their roads... I bought mud flaps, but it's too late for that... Looked through my corrosion warranty, and it says not covered due to rock chips... I only have 10K on my truck (6200 miles) so I'm gonna go to the dealer when i get some time, and see what they have to say...
Add me to the list. I cannot believe it ...Small rust specks all over the rear bumper and tailgate. Just the tailgate and rear bumper no where else. I called my dealer and he said Dodge most likely will not warranty it. He says its rail dust and he's seen it before. Any suggestions on what to say when I take it in or who's chain I need to rattle higher up to get something done? Has anyone had success in getting this problem resolved?

I thoroughly washed my truck yesterday. After half a winter in Erie PA (salt hell) I noticed the chrome clad wheel covers had rust appearing on various edges. I have determined this is due to the inner steel wheel holding salt in between the actual wheel and plastic cover. I will consult the dealer in the spring being that I have religiously waxed the truck, and taken the wheels off to wash and wax both the inside and outside.
I have plans of adding the chrome dual exhaust bumper to complete my dual ex. conversion and am now wondering if I should paint the inside of the OEM chrome bumper I order new with POR 15, chasis saver or some other epoxy paint.
As for other rust issues I had the truck Ziebarted (rust proof undercoating) the first day I bought it new. Stuff really seems to be holding up and will hopefully save the underneath of the truck for years to come.

Ford never covered the problem on my old truck either.
I had my front bumper replaced under warranty after only a month of owning my '09. I was shocked to find rust on the end of the bumper. They said I wasn't washing my truck enough. Anyway, new bumper has been on for 6 months now and it has a rust spot on the front. POS.
SOme of the replies make me laugh.... My plastic rims are rusting, my plastic Ram head is rusting.... It is not rusting. It is particles stuck to your truck that is rusting.
You need to do yourself a favor and wash more frequently. One post said it was the first time they had washed all winter. Not good.
If you buy it is the brake dust on the back side of the truck replace the rear pads with ceramics. I plan to do that to mine this summer. Less dust, wheels stay cleaner.
I said it earlier, someone else said it as well.... Wash and keep it waxed. The particles will not stick as easy. In addition to brake pads, the other possible thing is the exahust. I had 3 1993+ firebirds, the rear bumper took a beating from the exhaust. I sure hated it when my plastic rear bumper was rusting on those cars......

I had rust on my 2007 Ram 1500 Hemi SLT, bumpers, and I now have a 2009 Ram 2500 6.7L SLT and after 6 mths I have rust on my bumpers. I am in Canada with lots of snow, sand, and salt on the roads in the winter but that's no excuse for a 6 mth old truck to have rust. I spoke with the body shop manager at my dealership today and he stated that they will replace the bumper(s) (front and/or rear) once under warranty but the new one's would likely do the same thing. He stated the issue is that the chrome coating on the bumpers is VERY thin and that this is the major reason for quick rusting. Until Dodge thickens up the bumpers a bit this will continue to be a problem. The manager in the mean time gave me a free bottle of Mopar chrome polish. It worked well in cleaning and removing the surface rust. I will more than likely wait until after next winter or closer to the end of the 3 year rust warranty to replace the bumper(s) and then go from there. I can also be more accepting of the front bumpers rusting a little early due to chips from rocks, gravel, etc. but there is no reason for my rear bumper to rust so quick.
As for people suggesting to wash more well here in the winter it quite often gets to -30 C (-20 F) or colder with wind chills so washing in those temps is NOT an option unless you want your truck doors, locks, etc to be frozen shut. With our winters I'm lucky to wash my truck 2-4 times between November and April. Other than the cold weather I maintain my truck very well and I still get rust spots on bumper (at least with my '07). Will keep an eye on this problem, but over all love my 2500 with the Cummins!!!
