I wonder if the dealer would be able to give us a color matched bumper to replace the chrome ones??? I'll have to see, the painted with he 3M rock chip protecter would probably not rust/chip near as much... I thought about sanding the chrome off and painting it, but I don't think that would be as good as a non-chrome bumper...

You'll have to post if you do this and what the dealer says. I'm leaning towards doing this if the dealership will let me. I don't think it would look bad and it would fix the rust issue!....

Default Rust, Corrosion and Pitting

We bought a new 09 Ram 1500 Crew Cab the end of July 2009. I reported to Dodge about the corrosion/pitting on our 20" chrome clad rims and the rust on our rear bumper in April 2010 by email at 3,838 miles. We keep our truck very clean all year round and it is used more as a car then a truck. We have added the hockey stick and spear stripe kits to the bed and hood. Also, body color fiberglass running boards along with a folding tonneau cover. We get looks and complements on how sharp it looks all the time. Dodge emailed us back to take it into our dealer and we have yet to get anything replaced. The truck now has almost 11K miles on it (1/28/11) and now we have rust showing on the side of the front bumper. No amount of wax and cleaning will keep cheap chrome from rusting. I have been a gear head since the early 70's and cannot clean and wax every day of the week. Last summer we took the truck to a Mopar car show and got a lot of attention. I am going to contact Dodge by email again and see what happens. I have been on many Dodge forums. You see rust and corrosion as a major complaint on 2009 Dodge Rams. The chrome on the 2011 Rams looks much better. P.S. the chrome clad wheels were made in China. I wonder where the bumpers were made?

My chrome badges started peeling at 5000 miles. Dealer took care of those. Now I have 16000 miles on my 2010 Ram and I just noticed rust starting to come through on my front bumper. I will definitely be going back to dealer closer to 36,000 mile mark for a new bumper.
