The main reasons I did not buy a Ford was those stupid lines on the rear tailgate, rear lights that wrap around onto the side of the truck by about a foot, and no gas cap. The Ford rep told me that no water, dirt or mud will get into the filler neck. The Fords interior was comparable to the Dodge's, but the exterior styling definitely goes to the Dodge.

As has been pointed out here, that 5.4L is one of the most anemic v8 engines that currently resides in a trucks engine bay. I think the rest of the F-150 is OK enough but when are they going to get competitive in the engine department? They saw fit to put $$ into a 6 speed transmision but continue to ignore the powerplant. In my opinion, the interior on my sport is as good as any other trucks interior. The buckets and center console are more like the interior of a nice performance car.

Anemic - sort of. It doesn't take off like a drag car, but it does tow better than anything else in its class. If towing had been my number one requirement, I would have bought another F150. I've towed with both motors and there's no comparison (the ford is just better). Jumping on the gas unloaded at a stoplight, there is also no comparison (the ram is just better).

Cheap hard plastic? Not in my truck. Soft leather dash covering. hard where it needs to be, like round the key.

The door cards are indeed 1980s style. But that's no different than say, a Lincoln.

My neighbor has an F-150, brand new. Nice truck. The RAM's nicer though. And it has coil springs.

I thought so until I saw this video (and yes they swap trailers later in the video and same result, Dodge embarassed the Ford).

Well I have failed again at buying a Dodge truck today. Found a dealer that has 4 trucks equipped exactly as I want. I was ready to drive 3 hours there to buy one then did a BBB and Google complaints search on the dealer and they turned out to be a bait and switch, change terms of the deal at the last moment operation.

Did they ever say what the configuration of the trucks was? Gear ratio?

I'd be more interested in seeing what happens when they are not towing over the rated tow limits. MY comparisons are based on pulling a 3500lb boat and a 5K loaded car trailer. My F150 was rated to tow over 11,000 lbs with street gears and would. My Ram is rated to tow 6000 lbs, and there is no way in hell it would tow 15,000 lbs up a hill (with 3.21 gears).

Granted my F150 was an 02 - so maybe things have changed (although it's the same motor)

While I agree ford has a higher tow rating, I tow the exact same trailer about 4000lbs total with my ram (hemi 4x4, 3.92 tow package) and my sons f150 (4x4 5.4 tow package), it's not even a competition, with the f150 you better stay in the right lane and don't ever plan on passing anyone while towing.

I had 3 F150's, ( FX4 w/luxury package and Lariat ) all with 5.4L and 3.73 gears. For 09, I bailed on Ford and went with Dodge. The Sport and Laramie interiors have minimal hard plastics compared to the F150's. Ram's padded door skins and padded/stitched dash that combined with the console shift gives the F150 good competition for interiors. ( the integration with MS SYNC as well as their nav system is nice though ) Back in 04, I chose the F150 over the Dodge because of the interior. Not the case for 09. Plus, if you get the hemi and 3.92 gears, the F150 just does not cut it.

I'll take another look at Ford when the 6.2L gets all the TSB's worked out and is available on the FX4. This months Truckin mag has a small writeup on that motor, 411hp... It's about time they get a decent power option as long as they offer it without the SVT premium pricing..

For 09 and now 2010, my vote stays with the Ram. I do not tow, it is my daily driver, and this truck drives like a car. That video here was rather interesting if it was not rigged, having owned a few 5.4L, they have no midrange power at all - a good tuner will certainly help though - so that is certainly believable for acceleration and maintaining speed on a grade.

I agree the tundra has a drabby interior, my 3rd gen ram has a drabby interior and the the ford and 4rth gen Ram have a nicer interior, but I'm not motivated to buy based on who has the nicer interior, this is driving up the cost of a new truck, engine performance, towing ability, mileage , and longivity are more inporatnt to me.

If you get it all, interior looks, towing, performance, ect, you paying for it, a lessor looking cheaper truck with equal power train at a a lot lower cost wins the game, all brands trick you into buying what you don't really need, but, if your paying, enjo
