I thought the tundra and dodge were head to head. similar motors, similar enjoyable exterior, but the interior along with the additional cost of the tundra, through the dodge into the winners ciricle.

tundra was 4-5k more than my dodge. and I like buying things that are shiny.

*Exactly* - Thats where the F150's are here in CO, in the RH lane puffing away. Easy enough to pass if theres room, otherwise your stuck behind them. You need all the power you can get towing here and the F150 certainly doesnt offer that. If they come out with the 6.2, its going to be a nice improvement.

And there you have it, everyone's needs are different. I don't want or need immense towing capacity, just a 2000lb boat. I want something comfortable that I can put outsize things in the bed of. I've used the truck so many times that I got shot of my utility trailer to the neighbor who was always borrowing it.

Following the same line of argument, ever increasing towing capacity is driving up the price of the truck... why not just buy a 3500 and have done with it?

It would be nice, but you better believe there will be a nice price tag as well...

The 6.2 Boss is a $3,000 option on the SVT Raptor but then...the Dodge radio and nav is nearly $1,800 come on I can buy an entire computer, and a Garmin GPS, and go get drunk a few times for less than that.

If you are not having luck with dealers, you might just try cutting them out and going through a buying service. Not sure if you are eligible to use USAA or not, but their buying program allowed me to get 3 dealers in a price war for my business. If you can get their offers in writing, it gives you some bargaining power, but if you divulge who the opposing dealers are, they may just cut a deal among themselves. It takes a little finesse on your part, but should pay off for you. Just make sure you know what the invoice cost is for the particular truck and know what incentives are available. I like to use edmunds.com for that data.

I'd be more interested in seeing what happens when they are not towing over the rated tow limits. MY comparisons are based on pulling a 3500lb boat and a 5K loaded car trailer. My F150 was rated to tow over 11,000 lbs with street gears and would. My Ram is rated to tow 6000 lbs, and there is no way in hell it would tow 15,000 lbs up a hill (with 3.21 gears).

Granted my F150 was an 02 - so maybe things have changed (although it's the same motor)
I normally agree with you, but you have to compare same model years. It's not fair to either the '02 Ford, '09 Ford or the '09 Dodge. Apples to apples and oranges to oranges

ford 5.4 is the same displacement, in 02 the 5.4 had 2 vavle per cylinder, 04 and up the 5.4 has 3 valve per cylinder and variable valve timming, the 02 5.4 is rated at 260 h/p and the 04 5.4 3v is 300 hp, the older 5.4 in a f-150 is a lot quicker, the 04 f-150 grew fat with the restyle.

I owned a 02 F-150 AND A 04 F-150, booth garbage, the 5.43v is set up to put out max torque at arround 1800 rpm, thats wahy tier rated for better towing, but the 5.4 has no mid range, thats why the hemi kicks it to the curb

I bought my Ram in December- for me it was between the 09 F150 and the 09 Ram 1500. I checked out both- I really like the 09 redesign on the fords, looks really nice- they did a good job. The interior of the one I looked at was really nice too.
The Rams of course always look damn good on the outside. The interior of the one I looked at was less nice/fancy than the ford one I looked at because it was just an ST, but to me the interior doesn't matter too much, I'm looking for functionality.
I ended up getting a 2010 Ram for something like $10,000-$15,000 less than what I could talk ford down to for a an 09 (this was in December). Oh, and uh, Ford's interest rate was like 7.99%- my Dodge is at 3.49%.
8% interest- pfft...

When I was going to buy mine I called about 15 different dealers in 2 provinces until I finally found one that would go as low as I wanted. Once I had his price I called some of the dealers that were close enough to me that I would actually drive there to pick up the truck and told them his price. They were like "i can tell you now, there's no way he can give it to you for that cheap." "Ok thanks, bye." Sure enough they'd call back saying they could match it. Then the two dealers who were closest to me would both match it so I pitted them against each other until finally I got the truck I wanted- well, more than the truck I wanted- I got a 2010 crew cab SXT with extra options for the same price as the cheapest bare minimum quad cab ST 2009 I found. And it was the colour I wanted... I was happy.
It was very draining and very time consuming but for such an expensive purchase it was worth it for me to do that.
