Default Drop in Filters

I am looking at putting in a drop in filter for now as I can't afford a CAI at the moment. Does this improve performance and gas mileage and what would you recommend?
Any help would be appreciated.

I put one in because I got it for free. It made zero difference that I could notice

We put the K&N in our truck. I don't know if it improved mpg at all but I did notice a little better top end.

The best part (for us) was the fact that it was rewashable. I have a K&N in my G35 and eventually we'll get one for my Mom's Accord, and my dad already has one in all of his bikes so we have plenty of cleaning/re-oiling kits. Figure after 2 washes then the K&N pays for itself rather than buying a new 20-30 dollar paper filter. Plus, you can wash the K&N more frequently in the hopes of getting a bit better mpg.

If you want to get a reusable drop in get the AEM dryflow b/c it filters the best and you don't have to mess w/ oiling it. I had doubts about it b/c the dust tests AEM ran were at low cfm's like 240, but plenty of guys on BITOG have them on v8's and had good silicon/dirt numbers on their UOA's.

Thanks Chambers. I was also wondering about the dry flows. I will have to definitely do some research on those. I need something that filters really well as I live in a very dusty climate and just want to make sure I am getting the best protection.

Here is some good info from AEM's site w/ test comparing one of their cone dryflows to the competition http://www.aempower.com/files/swri_d..._data_10-7.pdf. I already got a drop in for my dad's 09, easy to clean b/c you don't need any special cleaning solution or have to re-oil them.

Default k&n

it is really simple logic if you think about it. more air is going to equal more dirt let through. k and n only damamges sensors when someone re oils it and uses too much oil, that is very true, but I have been told the dodge hemi does not have a maf anyway.....i put a k&n in and the only real benefit I see if the reusability. yeah the engine may breath a bit easier but I dont really beleive it is enough to tell.

also if there is more dirt, andI am only assuming this, then I guess your oil would pick it up and get dirtier, so then you would need to change your oil sooner to combat the higher dirt level and with that you would negate the damage but also probably negate the savings of re using the filter......

True, but the AEM dryflow drop in actually flows a little less than the OEM paper, at least it did in the application here http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...ue#Post1620666, look at the second to last post. Although not enough flow to make a difference and it filters better than pretty much all other reusable filters.
