Exclamation Make Me A Believer!

Hey everyone,

First of all, great sight. I've already learned much a couple of weeks of lurking around the threads.

I'll try to make this a quick rundown. I'm in the Navy and currently deployed to Iraq flying around in C-130s. I came over here planning to return and buy a replacement for my beloved '01 Silverado. I've always been a Chevy guy when it comes to trucks. (But, I have admired Dodges sine '94.) Anyhow, I came over with the mindset I would return to buy a new Silverado. But, for some reason I just couldn't get the new body style to sit right with me. I mean that 6.2 is a nice engine, but there's just something about the Silverado that doesn't seem like it fits together right.

Then I was paging through the Motor Trend TOTY article and I saw the Power Wagon and it was lust at first sight. But, I am but a lowly enlisted man and I can't, even after a deployment, come up with that kind of cheddar. How I wish I could... front and rear 4.56 lockers are you kidding me! Sex on wheels!

Ok, sorry back on track. The good news is that the Power Wagon got me to go to Dodges website. You know how this one works, the old bait and switch. They get ya there with the Power Wagon and you realize that the 1500 Sport is a damn nice looking truck. And yes, in the end I have no need for something as awesome as the Power Wagon.

So, now I find out that I can order a new Ram over here and get $6000 off the MSRP, discounts on most all of my options, and get the truck built exactly to my wants waiting for me when I return from the "Sandbox". Who says the military doesn't pay off every once in a while.

Only catch is the offer is only good until March 5th. I had wanted to test drive a Ram while I was on R&R in April. But, there's a good chance I'll miss out on that discount if I don't get my order in.

So here is where all you wonderful forum members come in. Give your advice, opinions, guidance or whatever you want to call it. Knowing what you know now would you say I am safe to order my Ram sans test drive? Don't worry, you won't be held accountable if I do order it and end up hating it. LOL.

Thanks in advance!

I bought mine after driving every competitors vehicle. For some reason I kept going back to Dodge for another test drive. The last time I went looking, Feb 16, 2009 they had exactly what I wanted on the lot.

All it took was driving one (four times) for me. Theres something about these trucks.

Thanks for your service to our country!

I test drove all the competitors too and dodge came out the winner. I like them so much at one point I had 2.

I don't know how long till your home but if you not picky on some of your option and can shop around you can save way more then $6000 toward the end of the year. My Laramie was $18000 under MSRP.

Plus I know guys what bought the vehicle with military sales and waited almost a year for delivery.

Thanks guys,

I get the feeling that I'd be the same way. There just isn't a truck on the market that seems to combine the looks, performance and features I want for the price Dodge is offering even at full MSRP. Chevy (GMC) comes close, but the looks and the silly two interior idea kills them. Ford, haven't ever loved the F-150 since they went away from the box body and I can't afford a SD. Toyota, nice trucks for sure, but (call me close minded) I can't see pulling my Harley with a Toyota. Nissan, don't even get me started.

dweir - I had actually thought of the same thing. Wait till October for truck month and save big money. Only problem is, while I'm not normally picky, I always have very specific options I want on my vehicles. I guess I just don't want to gamble on finding a Ram in the color I want with all or even most of the options I want and without a lot of junk I don't want. I will asked very pointedly though if I can expect to have my vehicle delivered by the point I return. If I do order it that will give them six months to get it built and delivered for me. One would think that would be enough time. LOL.

I couldn't be happier with my 2009 ram 1500. It is the most-powerful, quietest, and sure-footed truck I have ever driven, by far. The rear suspension is a great improvement and the interior is leaps and bounds above my expectations.

My advice, assuming your getting a Hemi, would be to get the 3.92 gears...

went through the whole buying process via USAA buying service and never did test drive my Ram till I went to pick it up. You're on safe ground shipmate, go ahead and pull the trigger, you won't regret it.

I'm at OPNAV now and headed back to Norfolk in a few months. If there's anything I can do to help you out with the buy, drop me a PM.

If you are looking for a truck to go and beat in the sands...this would work, get the sport and get the 392.s for sure. Crew Cab gives you tons of safe covered room, easy 5 adults comfortable on a trip. Trailer towing...not really get a 2500 if you are just gonna buy it and bitch it wont pull your trailer but your chev would. LOL So many ex ford owners do that.
It is a comfortable quiet, sexy truck, you can still do truck stuff with it it just looks too pretty. Just be ready for the stares.

Well guys, mission accomplished. You have me convinced. I'm gonna stop by the Auto Sales office this week and get things moving.

Attono - I'm stationed in Norfolk. Won't be back for a while though. Thanks for the offer, if I need any help I'll be sure to let you know.

Just so everyone rests assured, I am ordering the QC Sport 4x4 with the Hemi and 3.92 gears. I decided on the QC because I want that standard length bed and I won't have much in the way of passengers large or small to worry about. Don't worry the largest trailer I expect to pull will be a small motorcycle trailer so I won't be on here griping about my Dodge not pulling enough. Mostly I want a good looking truck that's fun to drive and can go out and play in the mud but still haul the basics. Now I just have to decide 4" lift to keep the warranty or 6" because it looks so good. Decisions, decisions! LOL.
