Default TruControl brake controller

Anyone use the Hensley TruControl brake controller? Their literature sounds pretty good, I mean it makes sense what they are saying about heating and all... I just haven't heard anything about them.

I would love a Max Brake, but I just can't talk myself into swinging the $350 right now. I was convinced that I would get the Hayes G2, but I ran into the TruControl today and it got me to reconsider.

I tow a 7x16x6.5 trailer a few hundred miles about 2 weekends a month. I haven't gotten it fully loaded yet, so I'm not sure what it will weigh. I would guess probably 5k or so.

I used a Tekonsha P3 and Prodigy on my 30' 10,000lb + enclosed car trailer with dual 7000lb axles and they worked fine through the mountains here. Not on this truck of course..

Not sure what makes that one worth so much more $$, I was waiting to see if the OE controller would be sold a an accessory before I wired the P3 in, 2010s changed the plug for the brake controller so I dont want to cut the wires just yet to install the P3.

The part numbers you need are listed in a thread on here. Everything works but the EVIC messages. On a 2010, it plugs right in.

Its easy enough to wire in the P3, the plug/wires is right there under the dash, but they changed the plug in 2010 for some reason to a square plug as opposed to the flat plug they used for the last 15 or so years. I just hate to cut it off, was hoping someone would come out with the plug before I need to tow this spring but its not looking that way.

I am thinking they changed the plug since the 2010 has the factory brake controller, figured if it was reasonably priced i would just put one of those in and sell off the P3 I have here. I kind of like the OE look but its not showing up in the parts books yet according to my dealer.

But as far as a 'better' brake controller then the prodigy or P3 I doubt it, just about everyone uses them. The Hensley controller looks nice but I dont see how it could worth double or triple what the P3/prodigy costs.

The Hensley hitch has its lovers and haters, just like Reese or Equal-i-zer. They all work fine if setup properly.

Thanks, dont know how I missed that thread with the part numbers, found them.

https://dodgeforum.com/forum/4th-gen...controler.html

I dont care about the EVIC messages, I just prefer the in-dash look. Not a lot of places to put the P3 on these.

edit: read through the longer thread and I'm not 100% convinced the factory controller will work, I did find the dodge PN for the 2010 pigtail though, so I'll put the P3 somewhere.

Yeah, the guy who said he did it never replied to any questions... kinda makes me wonder. But, I still think I will give it a try.

There is a couple other forums that people say it will work, except diesels it appears. Put the controller part number in google and a few different forums pop up with more info. I'll probably give it shot as well - I've spent more for less..

It's funny though, you can read tons of forums saying "I installed it and the lights all work", yet no one is responding when asked if anyone has actually towed with it hooked up and how well it works.... LOL I wonder if everyone is installing it just to say they have it?
