So i know this has come up, but still dont know what gains we can expect with 87 octane...Think someone said shifting which is great dont get me wrong, but with two kids, car, mortgage, college savings for kids, etc we all cant afford to run 91 every fill up <Nothing against those that can>.

So with the tune, 87, aside from firmer shifts, what can we expect...

For a comparison, i sent my PCM into PCM4LESS years ago when i had a trailblazer, and they had a tune for different octane levels... My question is doesn't superchips have 87 tune?

$300 for a programmer = the price difference between 87 and 91 octane for 1500 gallons.
I'm sorry, but it seems like a pointless question.

Here is a link to the .pdf file of the owner's manual: Link
Says right in there that there is an 87 octane program to maximize economy.

Thanks
CA Stu

PS Here is a nugget of wisdom that was imparted to my by my first boss, seems applicable: "No one really gives a **** about your problems, and the people that do are glad that you have them."

Ya the savings you get when filling up with 87 can get you a hotdog and maybe a drink at the gas station.

The difference between 87 & 93 for someone like me is $500/yr. Still haven't decided what I will run - I'll just have to wait and see how big the difference is between the 2 tunes when my Cortex gets here.

also the fuel in my area the 89 or higher octane the fuel contains detergents that the 87 octane doesnt have so you get the extra benefit of a cleaner fuel system, injectors, combustion chambers and valves with the higher octane.havent tried the 87 tune yet,but there does seem to be a slight difference between the 91 and 93 tune truck seems more responsive with the 93 tune and the fuel is rated at 87,89,92 or 93 and 92-93 is usually the same price so for me there is no benefit to run the 91 tune over the 93.it would of been nice to see a 87,89,92 tune for reg, plus,or prem.

A lot of times the detergents in 91/93 are much better than even in 89, especially with the brand gasolines. But, if you're not loyal to one particular brand, you get basically 0 benefit - that's also something to keep in mind.....

Which tunes are available for our trucks? I know they offer different ones depending on the vehicles. I have heard of the 87 and performance 91 and/or 93.

I have the cortex at home, but have been waiting for a couple days to get an email to update.

You get the 87, 91, 93 and the XS(gas saver) tune with the Cortex. Haven't tried the XS one yet but will in two weeks when I travel to NC. The big differences I saw from stock were the 87 and 93. The 91 tune seemed ok but nothing over the 87. The 93 was noticably different and is where I've been leaving it.
